Indiemeet Extrameet Playstorm - Into the Woods

This Extrameet we'll be breaking games down and designing them from the ground up. In the first session people will pitch a game or a design element inspired by the theme 'Into the Woods.' People decide which pitch excites them most and then collaboratively work on brainstorming and designing a game in that session. In the second session, we'll pitch those games and playtest them.

Afterwards, we can sit round and chat about what worked, what didn't, what could be tweaked, and just generally discuss how we're approaching our games.

Ultimately, this is about experimenting and changing our perspectives on how we interact with games. If we design any games that we're really happy with, then we'll lay them out and put them on Indiemeet's Facebook page as a free download.

If you want to give your game another playtest, this is a short reminder that there is going to be a midweek Indiemeet this week on Wednesday at the Horseshoe Inn (also in London Bridge) - hope to see you there! http://www.meetup.com/London-Indie-RPG-Meetup-Group/events/176416922/

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who showed. You were all wonderful, friendly, creative, and shiny people to spend a Saturday with.

And we have five games from our first Playstorm. Bloody glorious!

I'll be putting people who collaborated together in touch via email. I'm also going to organise a midweek meet up in between Playstorms to work and experiment with our Into the Woods games. I'll let everyone know in the next few days when that will be.

    Peace, love, and stories
    xx

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Feel free to bring tokens, dice, pens, pencils, fairy lights and whatever else you want to contribute.

This is about designing the stories you want to play, so bring what you find interesting to play with.

We'll be starting a little earlier than usual, 12.15. I want to do a little opening exercise and talk a little about what we want from the day.

I've already figured out what I want to pitch and here's the poem that inspired it: http://m.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/stolen-child

    Peace, love, and stories
    xx

Over on the G+ page EJ posted links to two games where the woods are utilised as a pervasive metaphor: Two games which comment on the theme of the woods as a metaphor, either for despair or metamorphosis:

Evening all, I'm really looking forward to our first Playstorm. I came across this series of atmospheric woodland photos - http://www.lovethesepics.com/2012/10/when-the-woods-are-scary-enchanted-forests-like-brothers-grimm-broken-fairytales/ I found them very inspirational. If anyone else wants to post images, songs and stories inspired by our theme, Into the Woods, then please feel free. xx

Reminding us that the inspiration for most fantasy games- especially those with dwarves and goblins etc.- comes ultimately from Nordic folklore.

    Lovely images Anita!

How about a song from those Norwegian maestros of Fo-Ro-Po (folk-rock-pop) Katzenjammer?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDK5sSwcBtM&feature=kp

It veers more into folktales rather than fairy tales but that's no bad thing just for some variety.

      That was absolutely beautiful!

I was wondering...Is the idea to bring something that has been tinkered with or where there's the skeleton of a game that needs help? Or is the idea to not prepare or think about the game in advance?

    Or does it not matter?

    April 15, 2014

Oh, that's a really good question. The idea is to collaboratively design something on the day with other people. However, to get the ball rolling people will pitch ideas or elements they want to work on. So, you could definitely come with a rough idea inspired by Into the Woods.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
