A day trip to Rochester for its Dickensian Christmas festival: a celebration of the life and works of the writer Charles Dickens.
The planned schedule is:
Meet me at 8:45am next to Nero Express at Victoria train station (outside WH Smith's, next to some moving stairs, facing the ticket office). This is number 42 on this map of the station:
I'll be wearing an orange scarf. If you need to contact me my mobile number is 07984 257572.
Please pay me £20 cash at the station when you see me. This covers the return train journey (travelling together) and a contribution to the organiser's costs.
9:22am: Train leaves London Victoria (destination: Ramsgate)
10:15am: Train arrives in Rochester
Note that we cannot wait for latecomers
During the day there are many activities to enjoy. For full details see: http://www.rochesterdickensfestival.org.uk
It will be very crowded, so during the afternoon we may split into smaller groups. For lunch you can buy from food stalls, or you can bring your own picnic if you want.
Highlights of today's festival include:
- Seven Poor Travellers Procession (from 11am)
- Grand Parade (starting at noon)
- Dickens Christmas Market at Rochester Castle
- Various musical entertainment
- A walking tour of Rochester (from 2:15pm)
- Candle-lit Procession (from 4:45pm)
- Carols outside Rochester Cathedral (from 5pm)
We will meet at 5:40pm in front of the Visitor Information Centre, and plan to take the following train back to London:
6:11pm Train leaves Rochester station
7:05pm Train arrives at London Victoria station
(if we miss this, the next train arrives in London 30 minutes later)
