AL1 5HE, St Albans
Let's make a day trip to the historic city of St Albans.
Meet me near the exit of St Albans City train station (do not confuse this with the other station at St Albans Abbey) at 10:00am.
I will be wearing an orange T-shirt or orange scarf, and my mobile number is 07984 257572.
[ If you are late you will need to find your own way to the Museum of St Albans and meet the rest of us there ]
You should buy your own "super off-peak day return" ticket (eg £7.20 from St Pancras) and travel to St Albans on one of these two First Capital Connect trains (join at any convenient station):
09:01 Herne Hill
09:09 Elephant & Castle
09:24 London St Pancras Intl
09:27 Kentish Town Station
09:32 West Hampstead Thameslink
09:42 Mill Hill Broadway
09:46 Elstree & Borehamwood
09:57 St Albans City
09:02 East Croydon
09:15 London Bridge
09:24 London Blackfriars
09:34 London St Pancras Intl
09:41 West Hampstead Thameslink
09:55 St Albans City
(alternatively you can catch the London Midland train leaving Watford Junction at 09:01 and arriving at St Albans Abbey station at 09:17 - in this case make your own way to the Museum of St Albans and meet the rest of us there at about 10:15)
Please pay £20 in cash when you meet me. This covers the cost of all tours/talks/entries plus a contribution to the organiser's costs. You will need to bring extra money for food and drink.
The planned timetable for the day is as follows (subject to changes, depending on the number of attendees):
10:30-12:00pm Talk about Christmas customs and traditions (Museum of St Albans).
Walk to the cathedral and visit the St Albans Christmas Market (lunch snack)
1:00-1:30pm Highlights tour of St Albans Cathedral
2:00-3:00pm A Seasonal Amble in the Shambles (town walk with a local guide; if there are a lot of us I may replace this with a different tour)
Walk through Verulamium Park before sunset
Visit Verulamium Museum (if time allows) - learn about the city's Roman past
Tea and cakes (possibly a waffle, or afternoon tea; alternatively you could attend evensong at the cathedral)
I imagine that we will finish these by about 6pm, so you could be back in central London by about 7pm. As you will have your own train tickets there is flexibility about when you want to return.
