Case Study

In our January meeting we agreed that we want to bring up a topic or situation as a case study for us to understand and collaborate on options.

If you wish to suggest a topic please add it as a comment.

Had to move to Thursday as Skills Matter was fully booked on Wednesday.

Please add what you wish to share as comments here.

We are going to be at Skills Matter for our next meeting.

If you wish to host London Limited WIP meeting at your place please let me know.

I would like to bring a topic of - how useful is estimation and can we really forecast on software delivery where there is a lot of uncertainty and complexity, where lots of systems and teams are involved with lots of dependencies to deliver a particular company/ organisational goal?

What can we do instead when pressed to deliver against particular deadlines if we really cannot estimate?

I have been involved in the initiatives like BBC Digital Olympics video playback delivery and Live Rewind for iPlayer, where in many instances we could not estimate some epic deliverables, but we did use other techniques and have many learnings that I would be willing to share and explore further within this group.

    What does everyone else think?

Might be worth incorporating into the discussion on planning a question about Cynefin and whether it can help guide the appropriateness of estimation.
