Welcome to a new year with the London MongoDB User Group! Celebrating that the world didn't end, we have our first user group of 2013.
Our first speaker of 2012 is James Toyer, lead software engineer for Glipho -- the social publishing engine. James will be presenting to the user group on "The importance of indexes in MongoDB".
Glipho use MongoDB to as their primary data store and have used it to increase the speed at which gliphs appear on a writers page, and reduced the loading time of the insights pages.
Our second speaker of the night is Volker Pacher, a Senior Developer at Shutl. Volker will be presenting an experience report on how they use MongoDB in a Ruby environment, and what options are available for the ruby developer
The focus will be on how to:
- install the drivers
- connect to a mongodb database
- model data using mongomapper
- decide between linked document and embedded documents and common gotchas
Shutl are a London-based technology start-up offering same day delivery or delivery in any one hour slot of the customers choice by connecting online retailers with local same-day couriers.
Food for the London MongoDB User Group comes this month from our favourite burrito slingers, Poncho 8.
Poncho 8 do the best burritos in Shoreditch, so we are very grateful for their excellent food and great service! Check them out here.
If your company is hiring MongoDB devs, get in touch with the London MongoDB User Group organisers about sponsoring the food for the meet up.
