It Doesn't Work That Way In Enterprise

The Topic

We've all heard it... or something similar. There's probably one senior guy at work who tells you this at least once a month. You've got an idea for an amazing new feature or practice that's going to save your company both time and money, but it's too 'cutting edge'; your management fears the unfamiliar and you are cruelly stifled.

"It doesn't work like that in Enterprise" is a passionate and motivational story about my journey as a developer in the face of one of the worst fallacies in our industry. The extremes of my experience will make you laugh & cry in equal measure, and maybe help put your own frustrations into perspective. Just remember, it does get better... and you probably got off very f***g lightly!

The Speaker

Pete Smith is a software consultant based in London with almost 10 years of experience making web applications with Asp.Net, specialising in API design and Javascript browser-based applications. He is the author of Superscribe - a graph based routing framework, and the OData library Linq to Querystring.

The Venue

The Huddle offices are just outside The City, still in East London at Aldgate. To find us, just Google Maersk House.  The nearest tube station is Aldgate East (via Leman St), and Aldgate tube station is not much further (via Mansell St).  You can also use the Overground to Whitechapel and straight down Whitechapel Road to Leman St.

The entrance is on the corner of the building, where you can register in reception, then we'll escort you to the 2nd floor reception where you can pick up a visitor's badge.

@Bart - sorry, no recording, although Peter is giving the talk at DDD SouthWest and at NDC Oslo ( and I suspect the NDC one may be available on video soon afterwards.

Hey, thanks for confirming me from the waitlist... unfortunately I can't make it down in time now so I've declined to free up my spot. Hope it's a great evening! Next time!

Sorry, I only got alerted about a place being available at 17:08 - too late for me to get there on time now!

Will not be able to make it too, because of an unexpected business trip.
