Russian Conversation at Baker Street, Tuesday 20 August

I've been enjoying our Russian language meetups so much I'm now thinking of getting a Russian keyboard so I can write these notices in Russian!

The next Russian conversation meetup at the Metropolitan Bar is on Tuesday 20 August. The place is directly above Baker Street Underground Station, so is very easy to get to from many locations.

If you are a native Russian speaker and want to help promote the Russian language with a very cosmopolitan group of Russian language enthusiasts, or someone learning Russian who wants to practice what you've learned in real-life conversation, all in a relaxed atmosphere, then this is the place to come. It is always interesting to meet so many new people from different backgrounds keen to speak Russian (or try and improve!).

If this is your first meetup with us please note that most people come between 7 and 7.30pm, though a few people get there before 7pm. I myself plan to get there around 7.15pm.

Please RSVP if you want to be there.

A shame you missed it. It was a good evening. Although my Russian is extremely basic, I did not feel totally overwhelmed. A good platform for being inspired. Hope to see you at the next meet.

Hi there, Very annoyingly I couldn't find the bar, and hadn't brought my map or Chetan's phone number!
If any of you Russian speakers would like to meet as an informal language exchange please do get in touch, ideally if you live North East London. I also speak Spanish and French so am happy to teach you those as well!

Thanks Chetan! I'm not sure if I@ll be able to make it but will let you know nearer the time. I actually bought some cyrillic stickers to stick on my English keyboard, and when I want to type in Russian I change the language settings on my computer. Also, if you have an Android phone, you can type install a Russian keyboard so you can switch between languages

    • Ashot

Yes, it is actually pretty easy. I use the same keyboard to type in both languages without any stickers, after a while you don't need them.

Also you can use www.translit.ru to type. Then copy and paste it.

Chetan, this is a Windows app I used to learn the Cyrillic keyboard layout: http://iss.leeds.ac.uk/downloads/download/176/keyboard_tsar

If you learn to touch-type in Cyrillic, you don't need labels :)

Is this a free meetup or is there a fee?

    August 6, 2013

    • Chetan B.

Hi Constance, of course it's free! Just bring along your sense of humour and willingness to speak Russian.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
