I ran comedy clubs for many years and I hosted both previews of That Mitchell and Webb Sound and previews and show recordings of Parsons & Naylor's Pull-Out Sections, both for BBC Radio. That all happened as the culmination of a few years of running a sketch night with Andy Parsons and Henry Naylor where we had all manner of guests like Hudson & Pepperdine, Mackenzie Crook (The Office), Dave Lamb (Come Dine With Me) and Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle in Father Ted) to name but a few. I am recreating that format here in London and there will be regular nights in Central London dedicated to sketch and character comedy specifically. And who knows, it might well be the birth place for a new radio/tv show in the future!
Alongside the sketch comedy I started running regular stand up comedy nights in late 1997. The very first gig I organised back then had a number of hand-picked new acts including Catherine Tate! I have always had an eye for talented comedians and perhaps most illustrious I discovered is Michael McIntyre (pictured here at one of my comedy nights in about 2001) and gave him both his first paid gig and his first run at compering. He talks about that on pages 231-232 of his autobiography!
So I hope that you will come along and see the sketch nights and let us know what you think.
