SO WHAT IS BRIXTON VILLAGE MARKET:
There's a jewel hidden in Brixton's crown where you can lose yourself in a maze of vibrant colours, tantalising smells, quirky shops and an amazing array of food. It's Brixton Village Market, and it is pretty cool. Brixton Village is located in what was formerly the Granville Arcade, a tired, empty space which has since been given a new lease of life by those clever, creative folk at Space Makers who have completely transformed it into a culinary and creative haven.
I would suggest heading there via the original Brixton Market on Electric Avenue (immortalised by the Eddy Grant hit from 1982). Full of interesting characters, tropical foods and a laid back vibe, this is a proper street market with a reggae soundtrack, selling everything from plantains and chicken feet, to suitcases and incense sticks. Then when you hit Atlantic Road, you'll see one of various entrances to Brixton Village.
Great little street food cafes.
