12 mile Circular walk through the Cotswolds near Moreton-in-Marsh

  • October 12, 2013 · 7:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

A peaceful walk through the peaceful undulating Cotswold countryside around Moreton-Marsh including a pub lunch on a traditional country pub dating from the 17th Century.

Meeting details:

Meet at 7.50 at the ticket office at London Paddington station to catch 08.21 train to Moreton-in-Marsh. (The reason for the early start is that the next train to Moreton doesn't leave for another two hours meaning an arrival time of midday - too late a start to fit the walk in!) arriving 10.00. Walk is circular so we return again via Moreton-in-Marsh station, arriving back in London in the evening.

Ticketing details

As is normal we will be travelling on Group Save tickets which mean that the standard return fare of £31.50 return fare to Moreton will be reduced to £15.75 (Group of 4 travelling a price of 2) or £21.00 (3 for 2)

Lunch

The Lunch stop is at the Bakers Arms Pub at Broad Campden at approx. 12pm after about 6 miles walking.

Equipment needed:

Waterproof shoes such as walking boots are recommended - as is a waterproof jacket.

Please note:

It is impossible to state a specific return time as this depends on the traffic, weather conditions, the general pace of the group and other unplanned factors. Those who decide to join the hike should consider themselves committed for the entire day. Thanks.

Hi, thanks everyone who got up at an insane hour of the morning to come along on this walk - I'm hoping that the Cotswold countryside in the sun (especially in the afternoon) made it worth it! This was probably my last walk of the year - but I will definitely be posting new walks on this site in 2014! Hope to see you on one of those, cheers Nick

Andy, Tahir and Judit, shall I get the tickets if I get there early? Or can you get the tickets if you get there early? Cheers

Agnes, Unlike the Seven Sisters - this walk doesn't follow an obvious land feature that means anyone could follow the route of the walk without having to map read - so I would definitely not advise splitting away from the main walking group to get home faster. The two trains we are likeliest to catch at the end of the walk arrive back at Paddington at 17.29 and 18.29 - but I can't give a cast-iron promise we'll catch them - I haven't walked this walk before. I hope you will be able to come along - but to enjoy the walk as part of the whole group cheers Nick

Apologies, won't be able to make this one either now due to engineering works on the Met line, would love to have come and hope that you may run it again in the future.

Stating the obvious I know but - autumn weather can be very changeable - please bring a waterproof coat and shoes! See you at 7.50am prompt - and be ready to buddy up into groups of 4 as you arrive for the discount train tickets. See you there - for meeting up on the day I'll send out my mobile phone number tomorrow (Friday) night cheers Nick

Hi Nick, Thanks for your response and of course I understand that its impossible to give a specific time for returning to London. As much as I was looking forward th this walk, this time I will not join you as I cant afford to miss my appointment in Victoria at 6pm. Hope to join you on the next walk

Would like to say thank you to Nick who's taken the initiative to organise this walk. I wouldn't mind organising walks but am not trained in navigation and reading maps do not appeal to me. However I have suggested a few dinner outings. Have a look at the Suggested tab. You're welcome to join if you fancy having sushi on 23rd Nov. Nick.
