LUUG 26: Facebook and Unity

Hi everyone,

I'm pleased to announce we have our January meetup planned already!

Facebook have kindly offered to host us on January 16th at their office near Covent Garden (Seven Dials Warehouse, 42 Earlham Street, WC2H 9LJ - https://goo.gl/maps/YntCJ ).

The plan for the evening is to get to know Facebook's Unity SDK. We'll hopefully have lots of live demos and experts from both Facebook and Unity there to show us how to use the SDK.

We'll also have a separate presentation by Unity on a different (non Facebook) topic.

The event will run from 7pm-9pm and then we'll be heading to the pub as usual. This time we'll be at The Crown And Anchor which is very close to the Facebook office: https://goo.gl/maps/vRxJa

See you on the 16th and happy holidays!

Cat

Arggghhh... Really looking for this event but was in waiting list. Seems like there were couple of empty places.

I thought there was space for 85 people the number actually going is 73!

Crikey! A spot opened up just now for me! Regretfully, it's too short notice for me to get into London so I canceled the invite, but that's someone else's gain :)

  • Chris S.

Just got told i can go as i was next in the list, too late to cancel my plans. so spave up for someone.

    January 16, 2014

  • Daniel S.

Myself and plus one have to drop out so two spaces free, enjoy!

Great though it'd be to see everyone, I think I'd better bow out... Going on holiday tomorrow and still got tons to organise!

how many left on the waitlist?

    January 7, 2014

  • Cat B.

Just a quick update - I spoke to Facebook and asked if there's any way we can increase the attendee limit. We can go up to 85 so 5 more people should now get a place.

If you're unable to attend, please do update your RSVP status so that someone else can take your place. Thanks!

  • Yaser A.

Changed my RSVP since I will not be able to make it

There's almost as many people on the waitlist as attending.

Why is the event so small? The FB space is pretty big (I thought I'd been to events with >100 people there, but maybe I'm misremembering), but if it's a hard limit they have, wouldn't it make sense to choose a venue that's big enough instead?

...plus lots of odd Halls and converted Theatres/Churches. e.g. the Playful conference every year just outside Holborn.

In the past, I've had good results just by googling what tech and business conferences are happening in London, and asking the organizers for suggestions. Also with some of the larger pubs, if you offer to do an "off" night (Mon-Weds especially). The only places I'd avoid are the big hotels (who usually charge lots of money). Everyone else you can get it free / very low cost (e.g. covered by a few pounds admission price. Which is fair enough for a 150+ person event!)

I replied as soon as I saw it in my inbox and was wait-listed as well.

I think we'll need to repurpose an eBay sniper-bot to get a place!

I thought it went in order they appear in the 'Waiting' list..not sure about that though. You seem to be 2nd in that list at the minute.

      January 2, 2014

    • Adam B.

Yeah. I'm 2nd in some views and not in others. I'm second on the meetup app but halfway down the wait list on mobile safari when looking at the site via browser. We'll see if someone cancels! /me wonders how notifications work...

      January 2, 2014

  • Kevin N.

What do folks think about all of us who missed the event going to a pub? :)

    December 27, 2013

    • nemo

(I'm happy to help organize this, BTW - I normally run 5-20 talks and events each year. But it's only worth it if a bunch of people all want to go :))

      January 2, 2014

    • Kevin N.

Cheers nemo. I'm not very well positioned to do any organising as I'm not London-based. I'd be able to do more online stuff though. Regretfully my only experience of FB linking with Unity is using an ingame button that hyperlinks to a Facebook fan page.

argh, gmail AGAIN decided that meetup is not important, so on the waitlist, again -_-

    December 24, 2013

  • Chris S.

Bummer on the waiting list again. Guess I try Febuary :)
