The Stardust had balls in their former premises in Kennington. I went there about two years ago, and about half the guys wore black tie, the level of dancing was high, and the crowd were sophisticated and I was impressed and liked the place, Since then, they have moved to slightly larger premises in East Putney. The crowd there is more suburban, and there's far less dressing up. But it's a good large floor, and the owner and staff are obviously hard working and dedicated to bringing about quality.
The bar in the main club downstairs is open to the dancers, and is reasoably priced. There's a show dance by world competition winners and if you want to go to it, there's a lesson for an hour in a Latin or ballroom dance from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm, which is thrown in with the ticket price
I have been told by regulars that the ticket price is now about £25, and is possibly less if you take out membership. Personally I preferred the Kennington venue, because I preferred the ambience, and the crowd, but this is still one of the best five places to go dancing on a Saturday night, and they hold these balls once a month. I have been told it's now the first Saturday of the month. This is inconsiderate as the Rivoli ballroom dancing night is also on the first Saturday of the month and has been for yonks.
You can buy the tickets on line or at the door. It's cheaper to get them in advance. Their web site for this monthly dance is stardust ball.co.uk
I have been told I am not allowed to take any more photos to protect privacy, so no more photos of this place from me. The owner (with his handy camcorder) told me that he is the only one authorised to invade this area
