Rivoli- improved ballroom dancing

In July 2013 I noticed the monthly Rivoli gay ballroom night had far more  dancers between the ages of twenty to forty than before. and the numbers of straights was increasing. There was also more free dancing and less sequence, and less of this 'men's only dance' and women's only dance' and 'mixed couples only dance' which seems to benefit no one except the cross dressers. It was a different DJ and I prefer him to 'Jackie's Juebox' who seems to love sequence and segregated dances

There was a table of show dancers from the musical Oliver, a table of ten mixed sex twenty five year olds (who sadly, could  not dance) more young gays, even a few babies and generally the atmosphere was lighter.

The price has gone up to £10. Maybe the owner, Bill, see last picture, might even start booking some decent live dance orchestras if enough of the punters asked him.

Drinks are at pub prices, the crowd is friendly and one can ask strangers to dance.

Trains go to Crofton Park ewvery half an hour from Blackfriars, Elephant and Castle, Peckham Rye and Denmark Hill. The last train leaves Crofton Park at 11.45pm,

Back to loads of line dancing and sequence dancing and segregated ballroom dances (men only, women only, mixed couples only) which was disappointing. Result: I didn't get to dance as much as I would have liked. And the segregation was not necessary: there weren't that many people there anyway.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
