 Savoy'>http://www.fairmont.com/savoy-london/">Savoy

It is possible to make reservations for dinner, but the band have an agreement with the hotel to allow free entrance to the Beaufort Bar for those wishing to listen and dance to the band and just have a drink or two. Reservations for dinner can be made with the Thames Foyer reception on[masked] 2111. More details on the Facebook'>https://www.facebook.com/events/1418001858421295/">Facebook

The eleven piece young, skilled and dynamic Alex Mendham Dance Orchestra are the most exciting dance orchestra in the UK today. The last time I went to hear them paly at the Savoy the dance floor was rather small, but I have been told they are enlarging it for this event.

It's not easy getiing reservations for the dinner. The last time I had all sorts of palaver sending scans of my credit card, etc, so this time I went to the Savoy and paid in cash, but could only get a table for two, not three as I had requested. Their phone number is[masked] and they will probably tell you they are fully booked. They said this to my friend last time but I still got a table a few days later,

The dance is offciallly black tie but about 1/3 of the men last time had ignored this request. This is the most fun and fashionable dance event in London and I hope all our members come, especiallyas they can get into the bar for free, but please don't turn up in jeans and a tee shirt.

Well all I can say is it seems that everyone has to be seated - like 'captains table thing' there are 4 stewards guarding entrance to Thames Foyer where dnner dance is held so pls be prepared to be questioned if u don't have dining ticket

Have RSVPd but bit concerned there will be nowhere to sit in the bar so may end up being a wasted journey... :( Can we at least stand at the side of the dance floor and watch people dance?

IMPORTANT - I would advise people to think carefuully about coming tonight. Yesterday the Savoy phoned me up to say that they had a cancellation and they could offer medining ticket after allthat they could extend Georges table to 3 people, so I've bought the dining ticket (£85) and will be at Georges table all evening. It the Savoy now, from what I've just seen it is extremely controlled here, you cannot sit in the Beaufort 0bar unless seated by a waiter, and then if you leave your seat to dance then that is your seat gone and given to someone else, u cannot even stand at the bar as it is not allowed,, pls think before coming

Hello, I made a lot of enquiries about this after I found all the dining tickets had sold out. The hotel receptionists there don't speak English very well but I did speak to a bar manager and he said the following - ANYONE can visit the hotel bars (American Bar or Beaufort Bar), you don't have to be staying at the hotel to visit the bars, also the Beaufort Bar is next door to the dancefloor. I'm going to another event first on a ship moored in the Thames but then im going to arrive to see George and Suzy at 9pm - also the bar manager did say that that is actually the best time to get a seat in the Beaufort Bar because that is when the hotel staying guests are all out at the theatres - my mobile number if anyone is nervous of arriving on their own is[masked]

I'd love to attend this - is it likely to be very crowded tho, or do they restrict numbers? Not sure what to expect!

I enclose links to two videos here, one is of the last Alex Mendham do at the Savoy Hotel in July - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJTZ6L8p3KE - the other video is an introduction to the Beaufort Bar (adjacent to dance floor) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QViuJXyup7o&feature=context-cha

All the dining tickets have gone for this event. Myself and George (who I know) have made an arrangement whereby I will arrive in the Beaufort Bar about 9pm - long after their dinner has started at 7:30, as those of us without dining tickets can hardly gatecrash on him and his wife whilst they are having dinner. Then all of us coming will either pull up chairs around his table. The drinks there are very expensive though - £6 for a beer, minimum £15 for a cocktail, minimum £50 for a bottle of wine so this will be an expensive night out - perhaps it was just as well the dining tickets had sold out!!
