This is gay ballroom night at the Rivoli, but about half the guests are straight, Around 200 punters go, but it's been getting busier over the past three months. It's cheap at nine pounds for a ticket, and the bar prices are cheap too, and you can get a cup of tea for one pound, and a freshly made sandwich for one pound fifty pence. A bottle of champagne is thirty six pounds, and you get an ice bucket and decent glasses. The doormen are professional , as are the bar staff, and the crowd is friendly. Some of the dancers, in particular some of the gay men, are incredibly good dancers. The best foxtrot I've ever seen has been here. It's open until around midnight, maybe a bit later. There are several really good cheap West Indian restaurants in the same High Street,
It's held every month, on the first Saturday of the month. This month, I'm not going, as I'm performing in Carmina Burana on the same Saturday night, but I do usually go and have a 'meet up' table on the right as you enter.
I'm not crazy about the DJ, and I wish they would have a live band and also do less sequence dancing, but then I'm difficult to please.
