Annual Camping Trip!

Date and location has been set.

Let us know if you want to come!

We'll be setting it up a bit differently than last year depending on the number of people interested.

We have 3 sites booked. $20 Per Person. 3 days 2 nights. Firewood included. BYO Food and equipment. We will help co-ordinate with folks as the date approches.

With the event filling up already - all 3 sites have been booked. We may have members on the wait list - so please let us know asap if you can't make it.

I'd like to collect the site fee asap - as I have already paid for all 3 sites. its $20 dollars and this will include firewood.

Mark has a post up on the event page to collect some information about available equipment. Please post there with what you have, so we can start coordinating. Also post if you are able to drive and how many people you can take.

For Food - Last years system didn't work too well. So this year, please bring your own meals - or arrange with others attending. The main meals - 2 Dinners, 3 lunches, 2 breakfasts. Nothing too complicated, unless you're comfortable with that ;) There will be snacks - but if you're the ravenous type judge your appetite accordingly :)

I'll post more details as the days progress - please follow the Meetup event, we'll post announcements there.

Email me if you have specific questions.

Alright all today is the day -I'm planning to be there around 12:30pm

We are at sites[masked] in the NORTH camp site.

there are room for 6 cars on the site - 3 are already taken - 3 left -first come first serve. rest of vehicles - there are off site camping really close by i think.

Dont forget things - but if you do there is a few stores near by!

It's looking like a pretty high chance of rain. Anyone have something like a big tarp for cover? I know there aren't many trees...

    July 23, 2014

    • Mark T.

I have a few tarps I'm bringing but there is not a lot to hang them from. But there will be a screen house or gazebo on each site so there will be shelter. Also my big beach umbrella.

      1 · July 24, 2014

    • Hossam M

we can make a little tent city with tarps strung up between gazebos/screenhouses.

      1 · July 24, 2014

  • Mark T.

Tomorrow is the day! Hope you are all ready! Remember that most of you will need and "Additional Vehicle Permit" for your car for the weekend. This is about $12 a day I think.

Looks like rain, sadly, so be prepared for a thunder storm or two over this weekend. There will be a shelter of some sort on each site so we should mostly be OK.

Games with lots of pieces, large games or ones having cards that can blow around are not recommended so only bring things that make sense.

As always let us know if you have any further questions.

    See you tomorrow!

    July 24, 2014

  • Mark T.

With a week left I thought I would give some food suggestions!
There will be a few charcoal grills about so any sort of BBQ should be easily doable. I would suggest freezing any hamburgs and hotdogs you are going to use on the Sat or Sun as they will keep longer in your coolers. Kebabs are also a good idea.
The firepits at each site also have a grills on them so they can be used for supper time. You might want to get a dollar store grill topper for them as the grates are a bit coarse and maby rusty.
Potatoes wrapped in foil can be put in the fire pits as well.
Canned items will keep well but don't just open them and put them next to a fire to heat them. Cans have a plastic liner that is intolerant of heat.
Breakfasts will probably vary depending on what utensils you happen to have.
Bring lots of snack foods for those cravings!
Alcohol is allowed on the camp site but should stay there. Don't bring it off the campsite itself.

    Any other suggestions are welcome!

Does anyone know whether there is a grocery/etc nearby for anything we might have forgotten or run out of?

      July 23, 2014

    • Hossam M

There is a convenience store nearby in like a marina - but prepare to pay premium $$.

      1 · July 23, 2014

  • Mark T.

If anyone is still looking for a carpool please reply here and I'll see what we can arrange.

    1 · July 18, 2014

    • Hossam M

PS: I plan to be there around 12:30pm on Friday.

      July 22, 2014

    • Ira J.

Edit: Meetup is bad for text entry. Alright, it sounds like I'm with Jamie, and Gurm's with Mark, yes? Don't forget, gazebos are immune to arrows!

Jamie, thanks for carpooling. I'd like to get there as early as possible. When/where should I meet you to facilitate that?

      July 23, 2014

  • Mark T.

One of the big beefs I had last year was the massive number of empty water bottles we had at the end. Bottled water may be convenient but we are right next to a water tap so I think it would be helpful if we could use reusable containers as much as possible.

I would also like to avoid the use of disposable plates and cups, but if you do, try to make it paper, at least then we can use it to help start the evening fires.
I'm going to have a little tub for cleaning dishes.

Ok Only a few more weeks to go!
As of right now this is the camp arrangement we have come up with. (it may change) If you have any comments please feel free to let us know! People in brackets are in the same tent.
Site 177: (Hossam, Andrew Chan) (Jamie and Shanon) (Shiva and Taylor).

Site 176: (Mark) (Andrew and Laura) (Nadia and Greg).

    Site 175: (Dean) (Gurm, Ira).
Most everyone has a tent already. Gurm and Ira, I'll be putting you in my extra tent. It has lots of room so you should be comfy.

The sites can park 2 cars each and any extra will have to park in the lot. Carpool as much as you can!
Most of you will have to get 3 day parking passes for your cars when you enter the park.

I'll try and talk to most of you at the game night Monday the 7th and see if we can't find a good arrangement of rides for everyone!

    1 · July 6, 2014

    • Ira J.

Thanks for offering your extra tent, Mark. I just found out last night at D&D that I'll be sleeping with Gurm. Gross. :)

Hmmmm... I wonder if the Dwarf King is really going to be able to come up with the resources to reward you for rescuing his kingdom... he's got a lot on his plate right now you know...

Alright guys - we're about a month out and I wanted to give everybody a heads up on what you need to start preparing! I will list things in order of importance - let me know if I'm missing something:

1 - be able to get there - find a ride - post here if you need a ride, or able to give a ride.
2 - have food/drink - prepare for: 3 lunches, 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, and snacks! only you know how much you need to eat. We'll have plenty of water - so just BYOB.
3- sleeping arrangements - get at least a sleeping bag...more if you need more cushioning - also make sure you're in a tent --- MAX: 6 people per site and 3 tents - ~usually~ 2 per tent. post here if you dont have sleeping arrangements (IE No tent)
4 - Bring appropriate clothing - good shoes, spare socks - worst case it rains - bring some rain attire... also nights can get cold.... doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Actually I forgot that I have a 120v adapter in my car, so I can just use that to blow up the mattress :), hurray.

      June 24, 2014

    • Ira J.

Is that available for everyone to use, Andrew?

      July 17, 2014

  • Dean D.

I was thinking of bringing my hammock with me, but the pictures of site 175 don't look favourable for one. It looks like there is only one big tree on the site. Does anyone remember if this site has two trees about 10 to 15 feet apart from each other?

    Thanks

Here's the link to the site list. Click on (details) to see pictures of the site.

There aren't that many tree's on the site :(

      July 17, 2014

  • Steven

Unfortunately I can't make it. I've been trying to get the weekend off work but can't. I thought it would have been easy to but no one can take it. I was really looking forward to going.

    July 6, 2014

  • Mark T.

Canadian Tire is having another big sale on various items including sleeping bags and tents for any who need some for the trip. If anyone gets something new please let us know for planning purposes.
As of right now we have room in tents for everyone but one more tent would maby give people a tick more comfort.

Just a reminder to get your $20 in to Hossam as soon as you can. You can usually find him at the Monday game nights!

    June 20, 2014

  • Hossam M

Just a few things for the camping trip.

Still need the payment from some of you $20 per person - just email or message me - games nights or e-transfer work :)

If you can't go let us know as soon as possible.

Also, only a few people have posted about their equipment/rides in the event page - if you dont have any equipment and/or need a ride, let us know too! Its only 2 months or so away, and time does pass quickly :)

    Thanks!

    May 8, 2014

    • Hossam M

Sounds good steven - i'm usually at Monday Games nights :)

      May 20, 2014

    • Andrew

Remind me to pay you when i see you next! I just keep forgetting.

      2 · May 20, 2014

  • Dean D.

Most of my equipment is geared for outback camping so everything is small and compact.

    - 2 person tent
    - single burner stove
    - 2 pots. 1.5 and a 2.5 liter
    - gas lantern
    - 2 x 60 ft rope
    - 12 x 16 tarp

I'll be driving down, but I have a small car with terrible trunk space. I could fit 2 people with a light equipment load.

    April 8, 2014

  • Andrew

I've got a 6 person tent, but honestly it only fits 3 comfortably. I don't mind driving, so I'd have room for probably 1 other person.

    April 8, 2014

  • Hossam M

I will be driving up - will likely have space for 1 person My Equipment:

Tent for 2-3 people - space reserved for now.
    + their stuff.
    2 folding tables - 1 short, 1 long.
1 "Gazebo" enough to cover a table
    4 chairs.
some cooking equipment - not enough :(
Tiki torches from last year for some ambiance.
    battery flashlights/lanterns

    April 7, 2014

  • Mark T.

Ok! Time to start the Equipment Tread!
Here, I will ask you to list all the gear you have available so that we can all co-ordinate and make sure we have enough for everyone. Also we don't want to bring too much. Last year we had a few cars so loaded down with gear they were in danger of scraping the road!
Each campsite can have at most 6 people and 3 tents. Cooking gear will also be needed for each site. Please let me know what you have to offer!
No need to list personal gear like sleeping bags unless it's an extra you are offering.

    I've got:
A tent for 4 (rated 6 but 4 is comfortable),
    a 1 person tent,
a screen house (will cover a picnic table nicely),
    propane stove,
    4 camping cooking pots,
    kettle,
    9 hot dog forks,
a few camp lanterns and other assorted light sources,
    2 extra folding chairs,
    a big beach umbrella,
    fire extinguisher,
    first aid kit,
    small folding table 2'x4'.

I dont think that will be a problem - we are encouraging everybody to find carpool, tent and food buddies

I heard Rondeau is good, I've never been but wanted to go.

    April 2, 2014
