'Science Museum' Treasure Hunt

Come along on Saturday 8th March for a treasure hunt around the Science Museum!

About the museum

The museum was founded in 1857 under Bennet Woodcroft from the collection of the Royal Society of Arts and surplus items from the Great Exhibition of 1851.  The Science Museum now holds a collection of over 300,000 items, including such famous items as Stephenson's Rocket, Puffing Billy (the oldest surviving steam locomotive), the first jet engine, a reconstruction of Francis Crick and James Watson's model of DNA, some of the earliest remaining steam engines, and working example of Charles Babbage's Difference engine.

About the treasure hunt

The treasure hunt theme will be based on the items in the museum and the answers to the clues will be found on the items themselves, on their information cards or as the museum is quite interactive, you will have to find some answers using the museums touch screen displays.

The treasure hunts are a good way to get to know the history of an area or museum whilst meeting new people.

How it works
We will be meeting up at 1:30pm, at the main entrance to the museum, then you will be randomly divided into teams of 5 people.

We will then give each team 15-20 written clues which you have to find the answers for.  It's up to your team to work together to find the answers. You can answer them in any order and we will provide a map of the museum to help you.  It's not a race, so you can take your time getting to know the museum.

The team to get the most correct answers and then return to base (a local pub) will win a £10 gift voucher each!
If more than one team gets the top score, there will be a tie break question back at the pub.
A £5 gift voucher will be given to each member of the team coming in second place and a prize will be given to each member of the team with the best team name.

We will be charging £4 per person to take part, apart from '2013/2014 Full Member's where it is free!

If you can't see us outside the museum, please call.

Look out for the group sign -

Look forward to seeing you there.

Robert's treasure hunt great fun as always. Maybe a good idea to slip all timings back half an hour? Less chance of getting caught with vast crowds of people at S Kensington Tube leaving the museums after 5.

Once more, I have to give my apologies, Robert, as I had to go to Brighton today. However, I will almost certainly make it to the Highgate Cemetary tour on 22/3 as I have invited a friend to join me. Hope all went well today.

Hi Fiona, yes for non-members it's pay on the day. When you arrive at the meeting point, check in with Robert who will be checking people off his list of attendees, so youcan pay him then. These treasure hunts are good fun and a great way to meet new people as you will be in a small team of 5 to hunt for the answers to the clues. Christine

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
