The first and special screening of “ENEMY OF THE REICH – The Noor Inayat Khan Story” is taking place on the 4th June 2014 at the Tricycle Cinema in Kilburn. The film, which is based on real life events, unfolds the story of Noor Inayat Khan. A young lady with a royal heritage – a descendant of Tipu Sultan and because of this she is known as “The Spy Princess” which is also a title of a book on her life written by Sharabani Basu. Set in the period of World War Two the courageous Noor Inayat Khan finds her calling and leaves the idyllic life she led writing stories for young children together with the comforts of her home to join the armed forces in efforts to break down the Nazi forces that were terrorizing much of Europe. Noor Inayat Khan became a spy for the British cracking codes to infiltrate the opposition. This was a special era as the role of women in society was radically changing but it was highly unusual to see an Indian woman take an active part in service. The film is beautifully narrated by Helen Mirren.
Noor Inayat Khan was commemorated on British stamps and Princess Anne unveiled a plaque in her honour. This is the first screening in the UK. The film is currently touring the US of A. An inspirational film - do check it out!
