London Documentary Network Message Board › SOUTH AFRICA REVISITED this Sunday with BBQ

A former member
Hi there,

I hope you can make our South African themed documentary meetup this Sunday organised by DocHouse with a discount to London Documentary Network members of £12 for the double-bill instead of £15 and £7 for individual tickets instead of £9.50. Just book with the discount code LDNDiscount before the day via or 020 7328 1000.

Information about the films is below.

There will be a table inside the Cinema by the box office reserved for London Documentary Network from 4.30pm for the afternoon and evening so I hope to see you there. I will be helping to run the event but will have time to meet and chat to some of you there.

See you Sunday,

Two legends of South African music brought to London in two extraordinary documentaries for one night only!

On Sunday 1 July, documentary festival DocHouse presents a double bill of two iconic music films, in an evening devoted to South African musical journeys and the powerful documentaries they inspired. Please see the press release attached for more details.

5pm ‘Searching for Sugarman’ portrays the reclusive American singer Sixto Rodriguez, who commanded one of the largest fan-bases in 1970s South Africa. With his Dylan-esque folk songs of protest and struggle he enjoyed overwhelming success, but then inexplicably disappeared. Wild rumours circulated for decades about his fate, until two men set out to reveal the man behind the myth.

8pm ‘Under African Skies’, charts Paul Simon’s journey to South Africa to record the iconic ‘Graceland’ albumn at the time of the UN’s anti-apartheid cultural boycott. Twenty-five years on, he explores the impact of this choice in an emotionally stirring reunion tour.

World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Prize Sundance 2012 | World Cinema Documentary Audience Award Sundance 2012

Between films the ‘South African BBQ’ will be firing up a traditional South African braai, replete with boerewors and springboks burgers.
