Ramadan Iftar at Maedah Grill

Salam all,

Hope you are well!

Ramadan is fast approaching and for our first Iftar, I would like to suggest meeting up at Maedah Grill near Whitechapel station

The restaurant serving delicious fresh Turkish cuisine has also the advantage of being located 2 minutes away from East London Mosque, ideal for Ramadan time

On offer, an interesting 3 course-meal and a soft drink for £15: Mix of 2 cold and 2 hot starters (Lahmacun, Cacik etc...), Main: meat (mixed kebab/grilled lamb and chicken) or vegetarian option served with rice and salad, Dessert: Turkish tea with bakhlava

The restaurant is also located near various little shops where we could go afterwards for cakes/ice creams :)

See you all very soon, best wishes for the coming month!

By the way i thought this might benefit all during this month...

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) made it easier for us to gain the blessing of Ramadan by dividing the month into three parts : 1. The First third of this month is the days of ( Mercy from Allah ) 2. The Second third is the days of ( Forgiveness of Allah ) 3. The Last third are the days of ( Salvation from the Hellfire )

Salaams, I haven't read most of the messages regarding my comments earlier in the week, but I want to say that I'm sincerely sorry for the bad feelings I have caused. Please forgive me, I have no right to say the things I did and maybe on some level I was judging the people attending this event and I have absolutely no right to do so. After testing sister Leila's comment, it leaves me knowing that I was naive when making that initial post. Once again, I'm sorry and please forgive me. I hope you all enjoy the evening and the rest of this blessed month.

      Leila, you forgot to mention,
      "meet like minded people"!
Agree that Brother Billal's final post was very brave - And thank you for your contribution too.

You have entirely missed my point. I do not plan to attend. My issue is that you (as the organiser/host of an Islamic group) are encouraging the mixing of males and females which is especially worse during iftaar. I appreciate that there are females elsewhere in the restaurant, however this meet up group is specifically encouraging the mixing of two different genders. In regards to your comment about not forcing anyone into anything, it is still your responsibility as a Muslim to refrain from creating an environment that encourages this sinful act. This could simply be avoided by hosting separate events for males and females.

    July 6, 2013

    • Imran

so i guess the cursory male to female greeting handshakes which is quiet prevalent within the group be withdrawn during the auspicious time of Ramadan as a token gesture of faithfulness lol you gotta love this drama filled guilt vs counter guilt arguments it makes for good viewing :)....

Before anyone gets on their high horse We are all sinners each and everyone of us yet we strive for better anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly deluded beyond belief, What i find Interesting is how it takes Ramadan to bring out these issues to the surface whereas during the whole year they stay dormant under the surface and undetected almost as if there not relevant at all.

JazakAllah Khair for organising this, Souhad!
Also helpful that there was a mosque directly opposite the restaurant. Enjoyed some interesting conversations :)

For those intending to get there via public transport. Do check your travel route beforehand. I think H&C and District underground lines are closed to Whitechapel, but do confirm yourself. As an alternative if needed, Bethnal Green on central line is a short walk away.

I can't see any details for men and women to be separate. What is wrong with you people? After fasting for the day, you are going to break your fast by having a mixed (men and women together) iftar? Additionally, going for deserts afterwards, how are any of the brothers going to be finished in time to go pray tarawee at the mosque?

You should then take your own advise and stay quiet if you don't like something I've said.

As for it being a stupid comment. Actually I disagree. I don't think it's stupid and I do think people need to lighten up.

Ramadan Mubarak to all. I do not plan to go to this event as AlhamduliAllah my family live in London so I will be visiting them & the mosque often during this month inshaallah (I am actually on my way to visit now). I do, however, believe there are possibly thousands of Muslims working in London whose family are far away, are possibly single & who after spending the entire fasting day at work with non muslims, would be delighted with some fellow muslim company at Iftari. I would have welcomed such opportunities when I worked away from london for 8 years as it can be lonely during Ramadan, always eating alone. On balance the kindness of this meet-up I believe, outweighs any potential sin. In fact, I would imagine most attendees are single & if this gives the opportunity for potential muslim families in the future (as we know family is crucial in Islam) it may actually be sawab.... Just my opinion...pls keep any replies fair & polite. Thanks

To be clear I meant always eating Sahari alone, sometimes Iftari alone...(just reread my comment that doesn't do justice to all my non-muslim friends who would fit dinner plans around my Ifrari times)

Thank you for sharing. Skimmed it & it seems brilliant! Apart from his views on iPhones & listening instead of reading to remember... (wouldn't have seen his talk had it not been for the wonder of the iPhone & I have a reading memory & forget what I hear) but I think we can all forgive him :-)

Ramdan Kareem to Everyone - 10th July http://www.iccuk.org/... . We are all one muslim Ummah so brothers lets not get into arguments and pray to get closer to Allah this Ramadan . We are one Ummah and not everyone will have same level of Taqwa so lets work on our Taqwa this Ramadan.

Salam Billal, thank you for your comments. Yes true I did not specify whether there is a men/women separation, however you are welcome to join the events and separate yourself with some of the brothers if they are happy and if you feel more comfortable. There will be other women in the restaurants as well, so feel free to sit wherever you want within the group. Regarding Taraweeh, I specified that the mosque is 2 mins away, so you are welcome to go there with some of us (those who can/would like to go), and then go for cakes/desserts afterwards if you like/stay with the brothers only. Nothing is determined in advance and we are not forcing anyone into anything, this is the beauty of it :)
