Workers of the world, DIVIDE! - Tuesday night gaming

To keep the universe in balance, as counterweight to tomorrows International Workers' Day love-in celebrations you are encouraged to bring and play cut-throat worker placement games such as Carson City, Manhattan Project and Vanuatu - Go on, tell those workers what to do and make them sweat and fight each other.

If you cannot bear mocking the old Communist "Workers of the world, unite!" mantra then why not don your Marx (Karl - not Chico, Harpo, and Groucho) memorabilia and fight the evil overlord in Descent and other poorly disguised, subversive, Communist propaganda games.

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Attention! LoB is part of NineWorlds, a weekend-long, multi-genre convention in London this summer, August 9th-11th, "the mutant hybrid of a science fiction convention crossed with a TED talks conference". It's full of: film and film-making, Doctor Who, science, feminism, Tolkien, SF&F academia, video games,  roleplaying, Discworld, social gaming, SF&F,creative writing, Star Wars, queer fandom, steampunk, open culture, Star Trek, Whedon, skepticism, costuming, comics, anime and J-culture. And boardgaming of course. Get along to the forums for details and a longer discussion. Advance tickets on sale for a discount now.

Thanks to John, Dan, and Chris for an excellent Terra Mystica. Dan, in his first game, thrashed us all. Nicely played Dan with your Nomads. Apologies to you all for keeping you waiting for so long at the start.

Back to back Agricola. getting into training fro the big tournament. in both games I tried some combos I hadn't tried before and neither quite worked. But hey, live and learn.

Amazing as ever. Played some new pandemic, which was fun despite us losing twice. Learnt Rattus, which was surprisingly crafty and deep. Finally played a great game of Sentinels where we decimated the bad guy.

Good to see Sentinels being played. I do have a copy of the Ultimate Editon that comes with all of the tokens to keep track of health and other bonuses, so knowing LoB people are playing it, I shall bring it along :)

Terra Magica reconfirmed my fears that I seem to have a mental block with certain types of games. These being games that require the placement of piecesand/or cards on the play area that then earn you the right to do something. Worker placement some call them, I refer to them as 'my bane'. Granted I did make an error concerning what things I could terraform, which crippled me from the off, but I was annihilated but the other 3 players. I shall play it again though, as I feel there is a need to conquer this mental block I have and the only way to do that is to keep playing these sorts of games.

Check out the charity auction at http://www.meetup.com/LondonOnBoard/messages/boards/thread/34019892 - some good stuff!

Started off with my first attempt at Wings of War (such brilliant planes!) on what turned out to be a slightly small table! Ventura has a good game in there hiding behind some unfortunate design that makes little things like knowing what phase you are in more difficult than it needs to be! For me, the gaming penny dropped the turn *after* Soren had just won! Wouldn't turn down another game (-; A quick game of Coup then the ever popular 6 Nimmt to finish up.

Started off with an arkless game of Arkassonne, then pox-ridden fun with Rattus, followed by Dixit Odyssey and some game called China with a cute scoring track as the Great Wall of China. Rounded off with some silliness with Rory's Story Cubes: Voyages, where my monkey got a job in a circus with his magic telescope that let him to see dinosaurs.

Distributing followers in Carcassonne is worker placement, right?

I will bring Ventura - FFG distributed, overlooked, newish (2011) empire building, Euro-wargame. Described by some as a sort of TI3 / Eclipse lite. 2-4 players 90 mins.

Hi there, coming back in the game club since few months now. I would be pleased to get someone initiate me to Game of Thrones and/or T&E (I played a long time ago but don't remember the rules). Cheers and see you soon!

    April 26, 2013

    • Lloyd

If it's Game of Thrones the board game, you shouldn't have any problems, a game of it seems to be going on at every meetup now. If it's the LCG, then there's a copy in the game box, but you'll have to round up some players.

      April 28, 2013

    • Najib

Very good thanks... I was speaking about the board game of course. Will be pleased to get in anyway. I'll be around about 6.30 pm. N.
