Wednesday night gaming

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Attention! LoB is part of NineWorlds, a weekend-long, multi-genre convention in London this summer, August 9th-11th, "the mutant hybrid of a science fiction convention crossed with a TED talks conference". It's full of: film and film-making, Doctor Who, science, feminism, Tolkien, SF&F academia, video games,  roleplaying, Discworld, social gaming, SF&F,creative writing, Star Wars, queer fandom, steampunk, open culture, Star Trek, Whedon, skepticism, costuming, comics, anime and J-culture. And boardgaming of course. Get along to the forums for details and a longer discussion. Advance tickets on sale for a discount now.

Great stuff. My first time playing Puerto Rico and it was much more relaxing than I expecting, and I love it (although reviewer Scot says it can still get a bit heavy if dedicated players play it).

I hope I didn't look too much like Richard Gere to allow people to enjoy themselves.

Enjoyed my first game of Ticket to Ride Europe with Sambhav, Graham, Attila and Rob.

Location really is too cramped, any bigger venues available?

Had a blast! A special tip of the hat to Rocky, who's a great sport, and Lloyd, who took me under his wing. Can't wait to attend again and meet some more nice people.

Now let's see if I can change my name in this bloody thing...

Good to meet you, James. It was a fun night. (I mostly enjoyed killing Jacob's people)

(At some point, I'll remember to sign out off Sherine's account and in to mine...)

    Game of thrones, Epic fun!

Well-attended night, as host I managed to 'take the register' which yielded some interesting info re: 'no-shows'. Will post later.
Started with 5p Citadels, where I will use the usual 'teaching' excuse for my poor performance. Then my first go at the 'pre-history' version of Carcassonne - Hunters and Gatherers. I've played the original so many times, it took a while to get to grips with the differences. Ended up with 5p game of Race for the Galaxy.

Ooh, who are the guilty fiends, we want names!!

      April 4, 2013

    • Angus L.

I definitely made it albeit very late thanks to some work related delays.

      April 4, 2013

So, big medieval Carcassonne and then little prehistoric Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers. Then some Zombie Dicing until a space came up for Race For The Galaxy.

:( Alas, couldn't make it. And as the discovery that I couldn't make it was later than I thought it would be, I couldn't RSVP a no either. Sorry.

Jacob, I'll be on my way to the Red Herring soon, got waylaid at work. :-(

Game of Thrones? Yes? No? Maybe?

    April 1, 2013

    • Ewan W.

Hi Tagore, I'll be there at 5.45.

      April 3, 2013

    • Tagore

Running slightly late - should be there by 6 though.

We're new and looking forward to meeting some of you! We'll bring Small World Underground if anyone wants to play that with us. Also hoping to try some things we haven't played before! See you there!

Someone mentioned they had the Great Fire of London and could bring along ?

    April 3, 2013

    • russell

Hey Martin. It was in my bag this morning, but I swapped it out! Let me know in advance if you want me to bring it!

      April 3, 2013

  • Robbie

Anyone up for battlestar at 6? I can bring it.

    April 3, 2013

  • Dominic

I bought Citadels, Bang, and my new copy of Unexploded Cow. HOWEVER at the moment it seems like I may need to work instead - I'll withdraw my RSVP mid-afternoon if that seems to be happening, so someone else can have it instead.

Any interest in either Age of Steam or Pret-a-Porter?

    April 1, 2013

    • Richard M.

Chris - I'll bring AoS if you want to play it. I'm sure we can persuade one more to join us to make it a 4P game but we have maps suitable for 3P just in case.

      April 2, 2013

    • Chris K.

Good stuff. Aiming to get there for 6. Hope that's okay.

      April 3, 2013

  • Simon H

I see there are a few newcomers on the list - be sure to say hi if you need a hand getting into a game (or even if you don't!) - I'll be lurking at the bar from around 6 onwards. Will bring a few newbie-friendly games.

    April 2, 2013

    • Rob

I hold my hand up as a newbie! I've been re-introduced to gaming for about a year so have built up a fair collection - am happy to play anything that's going. See you Wednesday.

      1 · April 2, 2013

    • Claire

I'm another newbie looking forward to Wednesday

      1 · April 2, 2013

  • Mike F.

I'll be bringing Hansa Teutonica, Castles of Burgundy and The Manhattan Project ... if it looks like anyone wants to play! Any takers?

(Hansa is quite combative, CoB is mainly about being sensible in how you plan your own growing economy, and TMP is about how mean you want to be to other players!)

I just moved to London and would love to meet new people with whom to speak the international language of geekery. I'm new to your meetings but I'm sure I won't have a problem finding something that piques my interest. Cheers!

I can't believe there isn't a meetup on Thursday. I want to start Eastbourne early!

Let's just go and watch Hedwig. Seeing a grown man in drag and make-up, singing his heart out will be good preparation for a weekend with Ronan.

I seem to be unbeatable at Myrmes. Really, I have tried to lose but it does not seem possible. I will have another stab at it though. I need 3 other willing victi..participants please. It has seen a lot of interest in those who have played it, hopefully Csilla might have another shot. Equally happy to teach new players.

Will bring glory to Rome if any body is interested. Ben?
