Wednesday night gaming

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Attention! LoB is part of NineWorlds, a weekend-long, multi-genre convention in London this summer, August 9th-11th, "the mutant hybrid of a science fiction convention crossed with a TED talks conference". It's full of: film and film-making, Doctor Who, science, feminism, Tolkien, SF&F academia, video games,  roleplaying, Discworld, social gaming, SF&F,creative writing, Star Wars, queer fandom, steampunk, open culture, Star Trek, Whedon, skepticism, costuming, comics, anime and J-culture. And boardgaming of course. Get along to the forums for details and a longer discussion. Advance tickets on sale for a discount now.

I wholeheartedly apologise for being an inattentive host )-: I got in, someone mentioned the word DUNE, and the rest was a spice-fuelled blur! Six great players made for an excellent game, thanks to all. Eventually a win to an unholy 3-way alliance between Atriedes, Harkonnen and Emperor was called. Needed to calm down after with light game of Cash n Guns. I will do a geeklist later if everyone can post what they played (cos I wasn't watching!) - thanks.

Is anyone up for a quickish round or two of Race for the Galaxy? If so I can be there at 5:30.

    May 9, 2013

    • Ali

Hey Rob - cheers to you (and the other players!) for showing me how to play RftG - really enjoyed it.

      May 16, 2013

    • Ian P.

Was fun, thanks for the games

      May 16, 2013

  • Roger (.

Two games of RftG in whichIi progressed form 10 to 12VP, Then Samurai (a bit too abstract for me), Divinare (in which I did not divine anything) and The City, a lighter RftG!

Had a great game of Formula D and witnessed Ronan spin and explode at the penultimate corner, much to the amusement of the 9 other racers. Finished off with Resistance/Avalon where Ronan expertly talked his way in getting 4 agents of Mordred into the final mission.

Incan Gold which I won by the skin of my teeth or rather, 1 gemstone! Then 2 rounds of Cosmic Encounter, one 5 player and one 6 player. Paul stabbed me in the back to get his 4th and then picked on someone who had only a negotiate so the final encounter was a dud for the rest of us. Tom playing Void won the second game, which may have been voided by the disappearance of flare cards due to a set up mistake lol. Then a quick round of Spectaculum which I thought Paul lost, but then he pulled off a win with those Reds. Then Cash n Guns, I was killed in the third round, easily the worst I have done in this game ever! Robby won easily with stacks of cash. I felt like i played Resistance, but I was merely spectating for about an hour whilst the Resistance helpfully put all 4 spies into the last mission - brilliant!

    1 · May 16, 2013

Started with a two-players game of Ark Of The Covenant, then played Dominion and rounded off with Vikings which was interesting and great fun, somehow I won despite having to cash in my points for... umm... sceattas? Was there in spirit for Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers.

  • Jeffrey G.

Thanks all, that was just the sort of break I needed. Guinness and games definitely go together, had a great time and some good conversations. Next time I'll hopefully get there earlier, and try not to get too lost in the process.

    May 16, 2013

  • Nadine

Stone Age - good game though Russell destroyed us. Fluxx - had never played it before, fun for a very short time before you desperately want it to be over. Two games of Resistance - always amazing :D

    May 16, 2013

    • Jeffrey G.

Fluxx can definitely get that way, that's why I like the themed versions better. Next time I'll bring Monty Python or Cthulhu for some variation. I got there late so I ended up playing that and after some chatting something called Wool Rules.

      May 16, 2013

  • Robin B.

2 games of Cosmic Encounter. The second of which was marred by me reshuffling the selected flares back into the flare deck so we inadvertantly played with no flares. Finished up with good 3-player game of Vikings.

    May 16, 2013

  • Chris K.

    Good geeky fun.

    May 16, 2013

Learnt Elasund, a Settlers game but only in title and dice. A good game too, and it encourges healthy hostility. Then Hansa Teutonica which is such a great game. And a quick run through The City at the end. A great evening.

    May 16, 2013

  • Alex B.

Great fun! Especially the 4 spy resistance winning mission. :-)

    TERRA MYSTICA!

I just bought Terra Mystica and I've learned the rules.

Anyone want to play it? I'd love to play against people who've played it before, but new players also very welcome.

    1 · May 5, 2013

    • Sambhav

And Luca is also here to remind us of our turns :P

      May 15, 2013

    • Mike F.

Fun game! There was a lesson in there - in Terra Mystica, unlike in Hansa Teutonica etc, too much early 'teching-up' can be fatal. The Witches were impressive but it didn't feel unbalanced.

      May 15, 2013

  • Karl B.

Elasund was fairly cut-throat and I'm glad to have gotten another game of that in; Samurai is a favourite of mine but not so much of a hit with Roger (but thanks to whoever brought that one in); Divinare was as disastrous as ever; The City is good for such a small and fast game.

    May 15, 2013

  • Ronan

All four spies on the last mission of Avalon. Can't remember what else happened. Someone should post some photos.

    May 15, 2013

Dune - still a great game after *all* these years.

Formula De tournament - Race 1 Circuit 1 Monaco
If you've already signed up for the tournament I hope to see you.
If you haven't yet signed up for the tournament but are interested please let me know as we may have need of reserve drivers (who would form part of a team). The reserve drivers would race when one of their team mates is unable to do so.

    1 · May 15, 2013

Excellent news. I'm also bringing a clutch of small and short duration games, one of which concerns the duelling of wizards.

      May 15, 2013

    • Nathan

Yeah, it was already on its way when we played with you guys, I just wanted to test it out (I could have returned it) before giving it to Teri as a bday present.

      May 15, 2013

  • Robin B.

Assuming I make it off the waiting list, I have Vikings and Stone Age in the bag.

  • Rowan G.

Bringing the p&p version of http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1799046854/a-study-in-emerald

    I'll arrive at about 6.45
if anyone is interested in testing

    May 10, 2013

    • Sam H.

Rowan, I'm off the waiting list and now attending. Very eager to try this as I'm thinking of investing in the Kickstarter. I'll bring a laminated board, laminated copies of all counters (agent/double agent, sanity, zombie & hide royalty), basic cutouts of all the cards (not laminated, too much trouble!), cubes and matching poker chips in 4 colours (green, red, blue, yellow - most from pandemic, green from Stronghold).

      May 14, 2013

    • Sam H.

And for those who don't know, this is playtesting A Study In Emerald. Latest Martin Wallace game based on a Neil Gaiman short story - Sherlock Holmes meets Cthulhu!

      2 · May 14, 2013

  • Nathan

Ok, so I can bring games, but would also be cool with trying something new out so if anyone has Thurn & Taxis, Ora et Labora, Samurai, Kingsburg or Container and they want to play them consider me ready and willing. I may bring Keyflower or Cosmic Encounter, depending on interest.

    May 9, 2013

    • Chris O.

      Thanks Nathan, much appreciated

I've the Avalon Hill board game of Dune if anyone is up for it? May not be the most balanced of games but if you love Dune there's nothing like it. And if you don't love Dune I don't even want to know you :P

Ok, guily tripped into playing Yedo again :) But lets play again soon!

      May 14, 2013

    • Nathan

I'll see how many players you have if you manage to get off the waiting list and into the warmth, but I may have a lot wanting to play Cosmic Encounter instead so may stick with it.
