Board Games on Saturday

Every week, London-on-Board hits The Old Star pub in Westminster for a few pints, some good pub grub, and of course, lots and lots of board games.

We're immediately across the road from St. James' Park tube station, so it really can't get more convenient, and we're normally there for 9 solid hours of gaming goodness!!!

Newbies especially welcome and if you get there at 11:00 a.m. prompt, you're most likely to not have to wait around to hop into a game straight-away.

RSVP's for all weekend events open up approximately two weeks before the event itself.

Special Note: If you're a gamer visiting London from abroad, and would like to attend one of our meetups, send a message to one of the organisers (Jeff or Martin) with the dates you are in London and we'll make sure you get a slot at one of our upcoming events.

Great day. Conquest of Nerath is stupid D&D wargame fun. Power Grid is a great game. 7 Wonders is also fantastic then two quick Avalons to finish and I was only a spy once! Still won both though :) Thanks all

"I was only a spy once! Still won both though" I didn't think I'd need to ask how it went - I saw you, Will and another (Jon?) all identify as spies against a bunch of new players and a bewildered looking Merlin. Bloodbath!

Hi Tim, sounds good although our Sundays are booked up for a few weeks with none boardgaming activities. Will definitely give you a poke when Sunday is on the agenda :)

Great day of games. Started with T&E, though with two newbies and two vets it was rather lopsided; then Netrunner (once each side); a remarkably snappy and remarkably peaceful game of Through the Ages; Seven Wonders, which Ronan trounced us all at; and a couple of games of Resistance: Avalon, where I lost mostly due to being stupid, and then won despite being dead.

An excellent day was had at The Old Star. I played Conquest of Nerath and reminded myself how much fun it was. I then moved on to Powergrid and reminded myself how numbers driven that game is. Then it was on to 7 Wonders and discovered that science doesn't win you that game, having a bagillion civilian cards does. I finished the day playing 2 sessions of Avalon only to remind myself how profoundly bad I am at that game!

My partner and I are coming along for the first time today. Looking forward to it! He wants to play spartacus (I posted on his behalf in some of the spartacus threads) and I'm looking to try out Game of Thrones! We're also bringing fluxx and chrononauts for those 'between game' moments ;)

Anyone has Settlers of Catan? I've just started to play recently.

    August 2, 2013

    • Will U.

Sure, I'll bring along my copy. Unfortunately I'm already booked for a game at 11, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a couple of people to join you in it.

      August 2, 2013

  • Chris O.

DUDES ON A MAP! Yes that's right it's time to play a game with little people on a large map. The game I'm referring to is Conquest of Nerrath, which is a straight forward strategy game set in the D&D universe. It's good fun and really needs a full compliment of 4 to play it.

Is anyone bringing Descent? I have not played but would like to try it :-)

No Sunday session for a reason?

    July 30, 2013

    • Jason

I assume its something to do with this big bike thing over the weekend the pub seems to be right in the middle of http://www.tfl.gov.uk... probably lucky the landlord didn't boot us out Saturday too

      1 · July 31, 2013

  • Matthew W.

Just out of curiosity, how quickly do these events fill up? I can rarely come during the week so weekends will normally be easier. Got quite a hectic schedule in general actually so can sometimes only book on a week ahead

    July 29, 2013

    • Chris O.

The mass block booking for weekend events does not help your fellow LoB members. These are events that you commit to, not things you may attend on a whim. By booking on the off chance you may attend puts off others who adopt the philosophy of bookings being commitments.

      3 · July 30, 2013

    • Will U.

Indeed, but unfortunately I think people will do it anyway, therefore thought it was worth the reminder to change the RSVP should they suddenly become unavailable.

      2 · July 30, 2013

  • Ronan

I am your host this Saturday so please look me up if you have questions. If there is anything you particularly want to play just post it and we will do our best. Also, there are likely to be drop outs so if you do drop please drop early. If you are on the wait list and can no longer make it please RSVP No. Thanks.
