Friday night food fight (aka boardgaming with a suggested theme of food)

Food, glorious food!

Not just a means of ingesting calorific content and the necessary minerals for living, it can also be a source of great pleasure and a great sensation for the tastebuds.

Celebrate the consumption, aroma and even the mere existence of food!

Please bring any on-theme games you may own.

Agricola of course features meat, veg and corn. Bonbons and Miam are other completely on-theme games available from our library.

I'll bring Fruit Bandits/Arne Junior, both featuring fruit and playing quickly.

------------------------------------------------

Bez is your host and wants you to have fun and be well fed.

------------------------------------------------

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

I've added a 'geeklist'. Folk who are members of bgg can comment on the games played or add the ones I've missed. http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/162277/games-played-at-lob-6-9-13-friday-night-food-fight

Is there no meetup this friday btw?

      September 9, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

There is none. All the red herring and old star dates for September are listed. :-(

      September 9, 2013

  • Biagio

If we get there by eight, would it make sense or too late?

    September 6, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

      Hi,

Whether it's worth your time to come can only be judged by you. But for future reference, We usually pack up around 10:30ish and if you come at 8, you might still have a chance to get into a medium-weight game. There's usually a few folk playing fillers too, which you might be able to jump into.

      September 9, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

Sorry I didn't see this in time to give you the advice on the night.

4 sixes! Very good night last night. Goid to see you all

Good night tonight (if I can somehow suppress the memory of Bohnanza). Played two games of Carcassonne: Winter Edition with the Gingerbread expansion. (Forgot to explain the rules properly to George who'd only played Ark Of The Covenant and sat patiently throughout waiting for a sheep tile, sorry.) Revelations in Love Letter. Much shark-infested fun with Survive: Escape From Atlantis (I scored a measly 4). And a ruthless and well-paced game called Fish Cook.

    1 · September 7, 2013

    • George

Damn temples and their crazy rules. Nah, I got more points then I did the one time I played Ark of the Covenant anyway... so it's all good.

      September 7, 2013

  • Ryan F.

Okay, I've thought about this carefully, and I will be bringing Survive: Escape from Atlantis. What has that got to do with food? Well sharks and sea serpents need to eat too! The players' meeples are the food...

I might bring Agricola too, just to ensure there are enough copies available.

    September 5, 2013

    • Shehzad A.

Lol you may not let me down but I sure will. :( lol. But I am learning each time I play so all good

      September 6, 2013

    • Stuart (.

Thank you for bringing this, have played it a few times before and it was great fun as usual.

      September 7, 2013

  • Behrooz S.

Rocky is lending me a copy of Finca, which is a light eurogame about farmers and fruit and donkeys.

    September 4, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

Can't believe I forgot Bohnanza! I'll bring that along, too. Blue beans are where it's at. You give me your blue beans for soy beans.

      September 5, 2013

    • Stuart (.

Oh god, so I have you to blame for Bohnanza. I really wasn't feeling that game...

    It was so quiet tonight

    September 6, 2013

    • Stuart (.

Yeah, I thought maybe the threat of rain may have deterred some people.

      September 7, 2013

Maybe we should have a one night of playing avalon.

Well my boss just took me to the pub and got me hammered, soi don't think I will be anywhere near the level of concentration required.

@douglas - such a typical spy thing to say...

      September 6, 2013

  • Antony

Due to some post-moving work still to do, I won't make it tonight after all. Have a good evening everyone. :)

    September 6, 2013

  • Jonathan

    Hi,
I'd love to join for the first time, since I keep forgetting to subscribe before the Saturday's waiting lists are on :) But I can only come around 19:00 after work, is that ok?
    Cheers!

You are, however, encouraged to purchase pabulum (provisions, perchance).

Actually it's more like 11 ish on Fridays.

      September 5, 2013

If only there was a game where you had to continually strive to provide food for your family whilst achieving other things at the same time.

    It might catch on. :-)

    September 5, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

Will you be bringing Stone Age, then? Or Power Grid: First Sparks? :-p

      September 5, 2013

If we're including cannibalism then Zombie Dice.

Cannibalism's an approved food group, right?

      September 5, 2013

  • Stuart (.

Oh my god, Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers, you've got nuts and berries, mammoth steaks, venison and fish!

    September 5, 2013

    • Stuart (.

And mushrooms on the bonus tiles!

I have this great idea for a food game.

You have a restaurant, let's call it Arthur's. They are delivering meals to the 5 harshest critiques in the industry over 5 nights. For each critic a few of the chefs in the back will prepare the meal, those chefs are decided by the head chef, however due to Arthur's strange chef policy this alternates between each person for each evening.

However, a rival restaurant, called Mordred's Massive Meatery is determined to get Arthur's closed and has sent some of his own staff to work their to take it down from within by tainting the food as they know if they can ruin 3 meals it'll tank the restaurant.

There is one of the proper chef's however who knows these secret staff of Mordred's because he was once a lowly street punk who robbed the back of the restaurant. He could let the others know about this but he would be arrested and the reputation could be ruined anyway. I call this game Resistance Abalone

Seriously though a food night sounds fun.

    • Behrooz S.

Good one! Btw, read about it on BGG and reviews suggest we may have played it wrong (points are multiplied by each player's knight, so you score for even 1 and a person with 2 would score double AND apparently you score every time it gets moved).

Maybe the reviewer got it wrong, but it may be worth checking your rulebook again?

      September 3, 2013

    • Stuart (.

Um, wasn't that how we were playing it? Each knight scores points equal to the city's tiles (not sur if you count penants too). I did forget to score for when the Gingerbread Man left a city and only when his city was completed. We played it proper tonight.

I've got some PnPs that fit: Fish Cook, a cheapass game where you play as competing sushi restaurants trying to get the best fish and ingredients for your signature fish's. I've also got Cthulinaria, a cthulu-themed Iron Chef style game about cooking the Great Old Ones before you go insane (I haven't played it yet.)

      * signature dishes. Damn autocorrect

      September 2, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

As long as you read the rules ahead of time, so you can teach them, it's all good. Looking forward to meeting you and hopefully giving those a go.

      I love Sushi!

I'm going to drink beer with gaming, and will even eat some chips, what else do you want Bez??! I'll bring Chinatown, if I remember to take it to work. A trading game, where you can build restaurants, seafood, dim sum shops etc.

    1 · September 2, 2013

    • Behrooz S.

I totally approve of eating chips!

      (And Chinatown's great.)
