Board Games on Saturday

Every week, London-on-Board hits The Old Star pub in Westminster for a few pints, some good pub grub, and of course, lots and lots of board games.

We're immediately across the road from St. James' Park tube station, so it really can't get more convenient, and we're normally there for 9 solid hours of gaming goodness!!!

Newbies especially welcome and if you get there at 11:00 a.m. prompt, you're most likely to not have to wait around to hop into a game straight-away.

RSVP's for all weekend events open up approximately two weeks before the event itself.

Special Note: If you're a gamer visiting London from abroad, and would like to attend one of our meetups, send a message to one of the organisers (Jeff or Martin) with the dates you are in London and we'll make sure you get a slot at one of our upcoming events.

I've just bought Imperial 2030 and it looks really solid. It looks like Risk but seems to play a bit like Terra Mystica. Do maybe 2 or 3 people want to try it with me, to see how it plays? I've learned the rules but haven't yet played it.

It's the sequel to the acclaimed Imperial and, I'm told, possibly even fractionally better (though less amusingly claustrophobic map-wise). It looks a lot like Risk, but it's got a clever mechanic where you control investment into nations rather than nations themselves, so you can watch opponents build-up a nation before swooping in to claim it etc.

Lol. Oops. Good game. Others still couldn't believe it took us that long. Did we follow the rules properly?

We followed all the rules 100% properly from what I can make out, apart from that single one I pointed out above. I'll take the bait, though, Shehz - don't you think you made a rather big contribution to how long it took! :o

Found myself at a loose end so dropped in and played Cosmic Encounter, TransAmerica, Little Prince: Make Me A Planet and Carcassonne: Winter Edition where my gingerbread man in a huge city with triple knights decimated the scoring early on in the game. My opponent valiantly played to the bitter end rather than flipping the table.

i can only make it for 1.30pm today. I'll bring some shorter games to play as the big games will have started at 11.

I'm unsure if I'm going to be able to attend. Landlord is sending someone to fix some stuff in my flat, supposed to be here at 10 meaning I'll be slightly late. But naturally, I don't actually expect him to turn up at that time. Since there's no waiting list, I'm not going to un-RSVP myself quite yet since I'm still aiming to come, but if a waiting list does appear I'll drop out and back in to put myself on the list in their place.

My wife and I are coming for the first time. Should we be bringing games?

We've been playing: Kingdom Builder, Citadels, train games (from Ticket to Ride to Eurorails), Small World, Carcasonne.

We also enjoy: Dominion, Settlers, 7Wonders, Agricola.

... and we'd love to try something new.

Hi Tom. Only been a few times, but from what I've seen usually a few people take lots of games, some take a few, and many take none. Perhaps bring a few you're keen to play?
I'm looking to play some not too complicated games since my +1 is not too keen on them. Do you want to start with a game of small world around 11?

You'll be fine without bringing games, there are always lots available , but the more the merrier. If you have a game you really want to play it then bring it and shake it at people and you should fill a game up pretty quickly
