Board Games on Saturday

  • Nov 9, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Every week, London-on-Board hits The Old Star pub in Westminster for a few pints, some good pub grub, and of course, lots and lots of board games.

We're immediately across the road from St. James' Park tube station, so it really can't get more convenient, and we're normally there for 9 solid hours of gaming goodness!!!

Newbies especially welcome and if you get there at 11:00 a.m. prompt, you're most likely to not have to wait around to hop into a game straight-away.

RSVP's for all weekend events open up approximately two weeks before the event itself.

Special Note: If you're a gamer visiting London from abroad, and would like to attend one of our meetups, send a message to one of the organisers (Jeff or Martin) with the dates you are in London and we'll make sure you get a slot at one of our upcoming events.

Thank you all for having me. My first visit and hopefully not the last.
Loved the company, enjoyed the new game I've tried (might play better next time), liked the pub, and the weather was not your fault.
Hope to return next time I'm in London - possibly 7th Dec.

I really enjoyed my first day here. Thanks to you all for making me feel welcome :-)

I had a really good time playing BSG. We human players were trounced by the Cylons, but we held in there for longer than anyone thought possible! Really good game, and great to explore the the New Caprica scenario. Thanks to everyone who played :)

You meat sacks never stood a chance! Thanks to Russell for bringing the game and everyone else, especially Gareth as the beleaguered Cullin leader!

Can anyone bring Lords of Waterdeep? I've been really keen to give it a go

    November 3, 2013

    • Jakob

I'm gonna be quite a bit late as I forgot about the Lord Mayor's thingy closing the roads.

Hello everyone. I just joined the waiting list. I am a first time attender. Looking forward to play some games.

Hey just a quick question. I have heard the vibe on a Saturday is a little different to that on a Tuesday- more complicated games being played that people have tended to pre-arrange. Is this the case as I would love to come along for a game or two?

    November 8, 2013

    • Mike Q

Yes, you'll get an e-mail. Also if you decide you won't be able to make it please take yourself off the waiting list too the same as you would if you were on the attendance list, thanks!

    Mage Knight anyone?

    • Ben H.

      I'm keen! :-)

You can count me in for that.

Would anyone like to try Arcanum, a game using tarot cards? (looking at you, Tim) The main mechanic is hidden bids, and plays a lot like Hab & Gut..

    November 7, 2013

    • Tim K.

Sounds interesting! Possibly. Do you need cards bringing?

      November 7, 2013

    • Henry

Nope, the game comes with a set! It's quite a pretty game actually.. There are rules on BGG if you want to check it out, basically you play minor Arcana cards to affect the value of the houses (suits) and major Arcana cards have funky effects!

Two days away and it stil llooks like I'm coming.
I can offer Runebound Sands of Al-Kalim which plays a bit different to the vanilla version (and quicker) as you can hit the players with a sandstorm to slow them down in a race to 4 artifacts.
Or Deluges, about resource mining, destroying the world and leaving behind the best looking monuments http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/61996/deluges
Or Battlelore (2 player only but probably space going by the last few weeks). Or Rogue Trooper for the nostalgia players.
    Expressions of interest?

Lloydy Boy, Ronan has given me the copy of Descent for you so I'll be bringing it along.

    November 5, 2013

    • Mike Q

I really liked Descent one my one play of the first edition once though. I would like to play and see how the 2nd edition differs, but alas I cannot teach.

      November 6, 2013

    • Jacob T.

I would be able to offer to teach, but someone bought Ronan's copy first... I can offer the poor man's version :) http://boardgamegeek....

If someone is willing to bring BSG, would love to play again now I know what's going on!

    November 4, 2013

    • Mike F.

See you at 11am, not at ... Daybreak!

      November 7, 2013

    • Russell T.

Yes, I only have BSG and the Pegasus Expansion, not Exodus or Daybreak unfortunately. 5-7 players sounds about the right number of players and I'll be there at 11 sharp ready to set up.

      November 7, 2013

  • Will U.

I'll be there with my usual pile of Galaxy Trucker, ticket to ride Marklin, catan, carcassonne and hanabi

Everyone coming bring games in case all of them are going to Eastbourne. Also, why is there no meetup on Sunday?

    November 6, 2013

    • Gareth H.

I'm guessing because of Remembrance Sunday happening just around the corner.

I will bring some of the following. Pandemic + first exp, Ghost Stories + first exp, Castle Panic + exp, Werewolf Inquisition. Let me know if you'd like to play something in particular and I will try to bring.
