Tuesday night gaming

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Good 3-player Warrior Knights unfortunately marred by some idiot (possibly me* ) forgetting a crucial rule about cities possibly revolting if not garrisonned. This made an early city grab strategy much more powerful than it should have been.

Must play this again with the proper rules. *all right, definitely me

Epic game of High Frontier - did appallingly badly. I *will* be back!

A competitive game of High Frontier, in which I did horribly while Ed "Master Blaster" Morland improvised a cunning strategy using solar sails and the ESA boosting laser, whipping the rest of us. Yes, I'll be teaching this again in the near future.

I suspect the quick-and-dirty part really helped as it cut down the size of the board massively as I couldn't reach most of it which allows you to concentrate. Add in some lightweight refineries and robonauts and clutch rolling of 1s and hey presto.

All very sad from my perspective, but I really ought to give it another go before passing judgement.

Great fun as usual. Played Coup, christened my new Incan Gold, the anniversary edition of Carcassonne (with firework logos on the tiles), Seven Wonders and then two games of Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers back to back with my fellow cavemen Haakon, James, Billy and Vesselina.

I think I'm getting better at Carcassone, as I managed to play the Anniversary edition and Hunters & Gatherers without being lapped on the score board.

Origin - Good, simple, "thematic abstract"(TM) game with some randomness but interesting, surprisingly complex decisions despite the only 3 very simple possible actions. Very easy/friendly/welcoming with almost everything scoring you points, but with repeated plays and experience you can probably become good at the game with actions contributing to multiple scoring opportunities and intentional blocking of other players. I certainly ran out of (good) options towards the end - and was mugged by Jacob, too.
    .....
Coup: Reformation - Always great bluffing game.

Played a great game of Origin, which i'm going to have to play again. Then some great Coup, and a couple other smallish games. Fun night.

All the people who played with me had a great time.
It was okay I guess. Sometimes I wish I could be you guys, so I could get to game with me, I bet it is great.

Hanabi will have to be played tonight I suppose...

    1 · October 31, 2013

I actually liked hanobi. Good and requires thinking.

      November 6, 2013

    • Stuart (.

Yeah, I think it's the thinking bit that puts me off.

I will be bringing my new Incan Gold game which is press-your-luck and a bit of bluffing. Have played it before and thought it was good fun.

So I been promising people to run more sessions of (a) Tales of the Arabian Nights and (b) High Frontier. I suspect we'll be facing a deluge of new titles from Essen, but if there's any interested parties, reply below.

    October 30, 2013

I'll be there for 6 with my teaching cap on.

Just read the walkthrough so I'll at least have some idea about it when I arrive.

I think it's time I got Coal Baron to the table.

    3 · November 3, 2013

    • Peter D

I'll have to leave after Coal Baron, but if you do bring Western Town and Homesteaders then I can stare at them with warm regard and deep respect at the unknown potential and never-realised experiences held within their beautiful cardboard boxes :)

I have Notre Dame and Warrior Knights with me tonight.

Hello this would be my first meet up. I would really like to play Settlers of Catan. I have played it 3 or 4 times before. Would anyone be up for a game?

    1 · November 4, 2013

    • Paul A.

Welcome aboard! Catan gets played regularly (and I think everyone knows how to play it) but I don't think anyone has a game scheduled. But lots of games get organised on the spot. Come along and try to persuade people!

I will bring Origin again - Ronan hates it and others like it, so it must be good.

    November 3, 2013

    • John B

      I won't be there till about 18 : 20

      November 4, 2013

    • Haakon

Great! Looking forward to trying this:)

I've just acquired Warrior Knights. Anyone want a game.
