Tuesday night gaming

DRAGONMEET: LoB will be running some boardgame sessions at Dragonmeet on 7 December. If you'd like to volunteer to host sessions/explain rules please see this thread.

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Origin (x2) - Still very good, simple, "thematic abstract"(TM). With repeated plays I seem to have become better at it although I still have no real idea how to play well. There seems to be quite a bit of hidden depth to this.
    .....
    Coup: Reformation - Always great.
    .....
Complots - Also great French variant of Coup with an Inquisitor role instead of the Ambassador.
    .....
Templar: The Secret Treasures - Very poor. Lots of downtime as you cannot really plan anything during other players' turns. Poor board design. Poor card design. Nothing new or interesting. Simply no reason to play this game or indeed for it to exist at all.

First time attending and it was great fun. Needs more ameritrash though!

Excellent three games of Betrayal at House on the Hill thanks to Danny and my teammates... We had a lunatic trying to summon a demon, the house being sucked into Hell, and a mad bomber on the loose! (Luckily not all at the same time). The heroes won out in the end all three times, yay!

Yeah it's a good game and doesn't get repetitive.

It does slightly after about 20 plays, but I still enjoy it :o)

      November 20, 2013

  • Stuart (.

Played three games of Marrakech, Deluge and Ark Of The Covenant.

A fistful of new games: thanks to Stuart finally played the classic Marrakesh (simple, quick but I have no idea of what the strategy is), then thanks to Soren two games of Origins a.k.a. The Dildo Game (had no idea of strategy and did okay, understood the game and then did terribly), Coup Reformation followed by Complets (which is French for Coup, which makes little sense). Than an early night for me.

The strategy for Marrakech is... not to land on carpets. :)

Found a blue disc floating around at the end of night. It is loose in the Avalon box with "Mike Q" on the front if someone wants to repatriate it.

I will bring Snowdonia again and then probably one of

    Lancaster
    Vikings
    Notre Dame
    Stone Age

    Any preferences?

Oh I don't know about that, maybe it just needs more work. Bijan do feel free to give it another go.

I see that this can play with 6. I would like to be the sixth please? I have never played, but I have watched reviews and stuff on youtube so I should be able to pick it up pretty quickly!

Anyone interested in 18XX? Newbies to the genre are welcome but keep in mind that they are heavy economics games. Have 2 players for now, would like more.

  • Tom C.

Hello, another newbie here... I'm afraid I don't have any board games with me up in London yet but I'm happy to join pretty much any game going on... got a particular hankering for Settlers of Catan if anyone has that though

    November 15, 2013

    • russell

Welcome Tom! No worries, there are always plenty of games available!

      1 · November 15, 2013

  • Riccardo F.

Anyone for Cuba Libre? We potentially have 3 for it already, just need one more. It's a medium-weight wargame with negotiation elements. Starting at 6:00 and reading the rulebook beforehand would be necessary in order to make sure we can finish playing it in time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
