Board Games on Sunday

DRAGONMEET: LoB will be running some boardgame sessions at Dragonmeet on 7 December. If you'd like to volunteer to host sessions/explain rules please see this thread.

Every week, London-on-Board hits The Old Star pub in Westminster for a few pints, some good pub grub, and of course, lots and lots of board games.

We're immediately across the road from St. James' Park tube station, so it really can't get more convenient, and we're normally there for 9 solid hours of gaming goodness!!!

Newbies especially welcome and if you get there at 11:00 a.m. prompt, you're most likely to not have to wait around to hop into a game straight-away.

RSVP's will open up for this meetup approximately two weeks before the event.

Special Note: If you're a gamer visiting London from abroad, and would like to attend one of our meetups, send a message to one of the organisers (Jeff or Martin) with the dates you are in London and we'll make sure you get a slot at one of our upcoming events.

Francis Drake, Coal Baron or Concordia? Pirates, Miners or Romans? What do you think!

Another bad rule - when returning to port, you only get the +2VP and +1 VP if you return BEFORE completing 4 missions. ALSO, this is a big one, the turn order for the next round is NOT the order in which you return. The order is based on the current VPs. Lowest VPs goes first.

I was looking forward to BSG but I can't make it on Sunday after all. Feel free to let a reserve take my place. Thanks.

I believe Jeff added me as host and by doing so overrode the normal limit, should be back to 45 the next time someone un-RSVPs.

OK, so I'm new to this group, but not to board gaming in general. Love BSG, X-Wing and GofT in particular, but I'll play most anything.

Anyone for trying out any of the following: Andean Abyss (centered around the Colombian insurgency in the 1990s), Cuba Libre (centered around Castro's cuban revolution in the 1950s) or A Distant Plain (centered around the Afghan insurgency in the 2000s)? They all use the same system, which is (relatively) easy to learn: each plays 4 players, with each side playing completely differently and with each having different winning conditions. Gameplay centers around both affecting the map, using events to your advantage (as represented by cards) and making deals with the other players.

Keep in mind that the games can be rather long. Cuba Libre is the shortest of the 3, with Andean Abyss/A Distant Plain taking longer depending on the scenario chosen.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
