Monday night gaming

Our 2013 Game of the Year Poll is open, to submit your Top 10 games click HERE

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Coup: Reformation - Always great fun although I was killed within 5 minutes.
    .....
Um Reifenbreite - Good, fun, road cycling racing game. Mostly a family game with quite a bit of randomness but also a fair amount of meaningful tactical decisions. Great fun when Richard looked certain to win by a large margin having secured both 1st and 2nd place and his third rider close to the finish line, but I then had a very lucky dice roll and pulled a long line of slipstreaming opponents behind me to the finish line passing Richard's remaining riders ending up giving me the overall team victory by 1 point.
    .....
Origin - Always great, simple, interesting thematic abstract game. Very weird course of play with nobody but Jenny achieving any goals and scoring any points for a long time. Only during the last few rounds did the rest of us start achieving goals.

I had a lot of fun teaching No Thanks and Leader 1 and jumping in to Hanabi and Expedition: (slightly) Famous Explorers. All in all, a good day of gaming, even if we very nearly died in Hanabi.

Some idiot put multi coloured fireworks in our game. PLAYING WITH FIRE, Lloyd. PLAYING WITH FIRE.

      1 · January 7, 2014

    • Ben O.

I'm imagining an evil prank where the majority of the 1s are removed from the game before playing. On an entirely unrelated note, where is the club's copy of hanabi?

Just a heads up to those tracking yesterday's night with dewy-eyed nostalgia; there's another gaming session tonight in the basement of the Shooting Star (not the Red Herring). So you can relive the wonderment. (There's no gaming library though so bring your own.)

Do you dream of being a knight, slaying the evil wizard and rescuing the princess? Well look elsewhere. All we have here is a "magic" cup, some armour a dragon is using for a pillow and a watery tart with a sword. But hey, if that's your cup of tea come and play Shadows Over Camelot!

A cooperative game with up to 7 valiant knights, one of which may be a traitor to the cause.

    Bring your catapult repellent.

    January 5, 2014

    • Mike Q

Like most co-ops it's mainly about the efficiency of the players. I think that game we played well and the traitor had limited opportunity to screw things up. I think having Lancelot's Armour can make quite a big difference as I was able to bury at least 4 nasty cards.

      January 7, 2014

    • Mike Q

Btw the expansion adds the following: up to 8 players, 2 traitors, 8 new knight character sheets, addition of merlin NPC that helps with quests and a travel deck that can help or hinder knights when they move from one area to another. And some new black and white cards.

I have just joined. Got a "Talisman" board game with "The City" expansion. I can bring it if anyone is interested but would be happy to play anything else.

    January 2, 2014

    • Lloyd

Tomz, I'm surprised no-one wanted to join you for Talisman - though it's not my kind of thing there's usually a few who are up for it. Next time, perhaps.

Bringing Eminent Domain: Escalation - changes how Warfare and fleets work, as well as adding new types of planets and a ton of new tech cards.

    January 6, 2014

    • Ben O.

Will do :) I'm very interested to see how certain new tech cards work with 3+ players too. 'Peace Treaty' for example. A permanent, 3 research cost card that gives you a VP every time you dissent from following a Warfare role!

      January 6, 2014

    • Mike Q

Sign me up when you bring it next please. Liked the original.

      January 6, 2014

  • Paul A.

Looking to join some game or other, but will bring in Room 25 just in case.

    January 6, 2014

    • Shehzad A.

I am committed to shadows over camelot so I will play that first but would very much like to play it as i have played it before and really like it.

      1 · January 6, 2014

    • Mike Q

I do like it too. If we stop after one Shadows game I'd like to play too. And of course if anyone is a no-show for SoC you're welcome to join.

Hello, although I am on the waiting list I need to hand Barry J Morgan his card from eight-minute empire. Can I do this, perhaps give it to the host or something?

Okay 55 people that's a lot! Im new to the group and read the n00b rules. But is there anything I should know before I come on Monday?

    January 4, 2014

    • Mark C.

Come on down David, it's great...you'll have a blast. You may have to hang around a bit at the start but not for long...see you tomorrow! Look us out...I'll be the only one wearing a suit and I'll have my head in my hands, looking confused and will be saying "WTF" a lot!...Mark

      January 5, 2014

    • Tom

I'm hosting tonight so say hi and I'll try and find you a game. I'll be there about 6.15 playing Java but will have plenty of time during Chris' turns to do hosting stuff :)

  • Soren V.

Anybody up for the "other" (than Leader 1), cycling game "Um Reifenbreite" - 1992 Spiel des Jahres?

    January 2, 2014

    • Nathan C.

I haven't played it but heard good things. I'd try it.

      1 · January 2, 2014

    • Richard M.

Surely 'Breaking Away' is the "other" cycling game? Whatever, I'll join in the fun of Um Reifenbrite. I'll put my translated event cards in my bag just incase you only have the originals.

    Euphoria anyone?

    January 1, 2014

      January 2, 2014
