Tuesday night gaming

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

John thanks for teaching caverna, a very good game but not as tight as Agricola. One major advantage is family growth is not all powerful, due to the adventuring and lower points scored. It is far more fluid - which will appeal to the less strategic gamer - there is always something else to do, one mistake may not cost you and feeding is never an issue. But as just about everything has unlimited scoring and it is much harder to block, you don't really need to plan as far ahead or worry about you opponents actions as much, it seems a much more solitary exercise.... maybe just maybe with experience it will become more interactive but it will never be as strategically tight as Agricola..... and of course it doesn't have the cards, and it is the cards that make the gric special

I know, or at least was told, that feeding is much more of an issue in Agricola, but I wouldn't say feeding is NEVER an issue. I didn't properly set myself up in the first few rounds where you don't have to feed, then things were very tight for me for a while. If there hadn't been a handily placed non-harvest I'd've probably just about got by, but would've had to destroy all my animals, and it was the animal breeding that got a lot of my points at the end...

Had a great time on my first visit last night. Will definitely be back again, although possibly not for a couple of weeks as I'm gonna be crazy busy.
And next time I'll try not to jump in on a game that ended up taking almost all night, as fun as Caverna was...

    March 12, 2014

    • russell

yeah jumping into Caverna a is a dangerous idea :o(

Tried Smallworld with Tales and Legends. Nice to have an extra layer of conditions to think about. I just wish we would have drawn less of those cards that just kill lots of troops. Next time I want to try one of the themed decks, as this gives a more balanced combo of events.

From the library, I'd love to try Tigris & Euphrates or Ra - anyone happy to teach/host either of these?

In return, this time I'm happy to bring/teach/host Giants (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/38862/giants) if anyone's interested?

      Missed you - next time!

Hi Tom. No problem. I arrived a bit later than I said I would. Hopefully I can take you up on your invite to teach me T&E/Ra next time we're both there? Still had fun last night with Carcassone, Jungle Speed and King of Tokyo ...

Chaos in the Old World anyone? I've been practicing my "god" voice :-)

I think Khorne is trying to steal rats tactic of 'non threatening'...really he's trying to tempt rat in as one if the fuffies before flaying him alive in revenge! Harsh Khorne harsh...and not in keeping with the whole losing gracefully....but very in line with the bloodletting god!! :)
      Rattie, don't be fooled!!

One rather gruelling game of Star Trek Catan, then Winter Carcassonne and Ra before finishing with Marrakech.

Wildcats Ho! Great game of Wildcatters, good game of Blueprints (thanks for bringing it John) and a.... game of Bullenparty(sp?)
Good that there was so much oil in Wildcatters, as it made the shafting much less painful.

Well the Pathfinder Champions although down to three were triumphant in their final run at the first full adventure. Nail-biting tension at the end of the first session as we were nearly out of time but Jonathon playing the Sorceress pulled off an amazing last minute battle, rolling exactly what he needed to defeat the Big Bad. Hooray for the heroes!

A simple fare of gaming, being Wildcatters followed by Blueprint. Both of which I came last in. So, imbalanced, obviously broken, etc.

So, there was a suggestion floated by Pouria that we go for the full Colonization trip in HF this week. But, failing that, since nobody came through with Wildcatters a couple of weeks back, I have got hold of a copy of my own and would be interested in giving it a test run if anyone is up for it?

    March 4, 2014

    • Derek L.

Ah! Paul the Prodigal returns... :) Yes, HF next week or so sounds good. I will aim to be there tomorrow around 5.30 or so to start filling people in on the intricacies of drilling for oil. First explorations with Wildcatters suggest we are facing a tricksy blend of tight resource management and multiple area control fights, both on the board and in the boardroom (share majorities).

ill be there for 6, hopefully a few minutes earlier...

I'm going to bring Star Trek Catan and try not to be all neurotic about the plastic pieces getting lost or broken. Also Winter Carcassonne with double gingerbread man action? (I have two Gingerbread Man expansions so you can choose between which gingerbread man to move for added strategy.)

    March 11, 2014

    • Bijmeister

'Added strategy' and Carcassonne. Two terms I would never thought to have heard together.

Me and my partner are hoping to come for this one. Don't think we know any of the games people have mentioned so far, but I'm sure we'll find something to play :) Looking forward to meeting people.

Welcome aboard Tom (and +1). Don't worry about not knowing some of the games - we're always up for teaching. Read the introduction for newbies and find the host when you get here.

Thank you! We're aiming to get there around[masked], depending on how lost we get. See you later! Looking forward to it :)

The final episode of this series of Pathfinder will run tonight. One spot available for an intrepid hero or heroine! We're aiming for a 6pm start.

    Retro Gaming anyone, HeroQuest?
For those that are old enough to remember it plays 5.
I'll bring it down if I get enough people.

That walk down childhood memory lane would apply to me too if we get time! :)

      March 5, 2014

Lord I can't remember the last time I played that! Must have been about 12.
