Old Star Saturdays

  • Mar 22, 2014 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Every week, London-on-Board hits The Old Star pub in Westminster for a few pints, some good pub grub, and of course, lots and lots of board games.

We're immediately across the road from St. James' Park tube station, so it really can't get more convenient, and we're normally there for 9 solid hours of gaming goodness!!!

Newbies especially welcome and if you get there at 11:00 a.m. prompt, you're most likely to not have to wait around to hop into a game straight-away.

RSVP's for all weekend events open up approximately two weeks before the event itself.

Special Note: If you're a gamer visiting London from abroad, and would like to attend one of our meetups, send a message to one of the organisers (Jeff or Martin) with the dates you are in London and we'll make sure you get a slot at one of our upcoming events.

I have this morbid desire to play Arkham Horror. Is anyone else up for it? And is it available or does someone have to bring it?

    1 · March 13, 2014

    • Daniel W

As long as everyone's happy we can take up to 8 players. The game tends to run a bit long with that many though, which is why I limited it in an earlier message. Happy to teach though and play for that long if everyone else is in.

Upper bar area for Arkham Horror, setting up now.

Would anyone like to play Indonesia? It's a great little economic game from splitter which is out of print. It has really unusual mechanics and takes about 2 hours. 2 spots prob going, maybe 3.

I'll bring a bunch of other stuff too.

      I'm running a little late, eta 11.15

11.15 is when the cool kids start to arrive anyway.

Two more games I've had for ages, but only just read the rules - The Castles of Burgundy and Yedo. Juicy, juicy mid weight strategy games!

    March 20, 2014

    • Chris S.

Played Burgundy once before (and somehow ended up winning the thing!), would like another go if you'll have me

      March 20, 2014

    • B M.

Hi Dean, I'll be there about 1115 so if you get a squad of four together before then, feel free to start without me.

All, I'll be bringing along Hegemonic, a 4x space conquest game. Any takers to start at 11:00 to 11:30?

    March 21, 2014

My big pile of washing up can wait - I'll try to be there for 11 or shortly thereafter.

Would anyone be up for some Alien Frontiers at some point? I have a brand new, as of yet unplayed, 4th ed copy. I'm down for Indonesia first, so I should be available for the afternoon.

I'll bring Terra Mystica again and a second game. It might be Bora Bora (if I succeed to re-read the rules) or Prosperity.

    March 16, 2014

I'm sorry but I have to cancel.

Still no sign of my copy of Avalon. I know it's a common game so assume it was picked up by accident two weeks ago (Saturday 8th March) so please could everyone who might have accidentally picked it up check to see if they have two copies of it now!

    March 15, 2014

    • Tom W.

Hi will. I have it. Very sorry about that. I will bring it along on Saturday.

Greetings intrepid explorers! I have a game of war that requires up to 7 more people! Space Cadets: Dice Duel pits two space ships against each other, fighting to the death! Skills required: A good head under pressure, ability to roll lots of dice, and teamwork!
For those who don't know the game, think of it as a cross between Steam Park, Escape: The curse of the temple, and Galaxy Trucker. Trust me, it'll be fun!

I'm a fan despite it being the most physically and mentally exhausting game I've ever played! Count me in provided it's late in the day. I also have a copy - if you can find enough people, multi-ship combat could be interesting...

I got this game at Essen, but haven't got around to playing it! I'd love to jump in

Never heard of the board games mentioned below. Does anybody play Cranium or Cards against Humanity? Or is this wrong group for that? :-)

    March 16, 2014

    • Will U.

To be honest, it's probably the wrong group. While Cards against Humanity does occasionally appear, the general focus of the group is on other board games. However even if you haven't heard of any of them, everyone is always willing to teach any of the games on offer (And there's often a selection of 30+ on offer to pick from). With such a number, odds are you'll find something that will surprise you with how much you'll enjoy it. There's coop games with players working together, competitive with everyone trying to score the most points, team based games. Dice rolling, hard strategy, and everything in between :)
