All Fools Day Gaming

'May you sit with the FOOL, may you play with the FOOL, may we all be FOOLS together'

On All Fools Day we ask that you play one game that is foolish, makes you foolhardy, is pure fools gold or crowns you the fool.

Just don't be foolish and forget to attend!

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 55 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

I attended for the first time with a friend and we both had a fantastic time. Thanks particularly to Robin who took us through the rules of Snowdonia and Kingdom Builder! I'll be back on Sunday for more.

Nicely busy night. Every seat taken and what seemed like games played from right across the spectrum. For my part I got to play Taluva, Divinare and a couple of very enjoyable but hugely unsuccessful goes at JohnB's latest SF, real-time, co-op acquisition, Damage Report. Must play again (with the easyfied rule set) just to know what success feels like at this!

Splendor (x3) - Good, simple, quick, almost abstract/unthemed, resource conversion game. Quite a bit of randomness with frequent lucky draws of "free" cards, but not a big problem in such a short game.
    .....
Lost Temple - Ok, simple, fun, expectedly chaotic, role selection, racing game. A sort of Citadels meets Magical Athlete.
    .....
Taluva - Always good, tile-laying game.

Thought I saw you playing Tash-Kalar, 6 player, with the Die Macher-inspired political expansion?

      2 · April 2, 2014

    • Soren V.

Yeah, but that was just from 4pm to 5.30pm so that does not really count.

High Frontier Colonization - in our personal Everest, we started with Bernals and Colonists, which made the game strangely different. Still, finished in a nippy 3:15, with Derek once again showing off professional skills.

After Lloyd's failure to launch (the rules are so massive and so dense that they generate their own gravitational field and he apparently couldn't muster the thrust - lightweight) it was just the three of us at the controls this week. A different feel with Colonization - factories are more powerful and things speed up a lot once the first factory is placed. As usual, it all ended just as we felt we had mastered the universe. It really need Futures to see the full extent of its majestic glory. Pouria had the fantastic idea of working on a rules revision - then we can aim to reach the event horizon where our rockets are passing the very edge at which the rules are still being written and escape the game altogether. Thanks for the game - great fun as always.

      Cheers Guys, great game.

Cthulhu hates April Fool's Day (it's his birthday) - successful game of Eldritch Horror but damn did it run long! My brain is frazzled now. Find me next week and I may be quietly playing Solitaire in a corner...

Glad to say Terra Mystica made it home safely un-burned!

This, at last, is the famed High Frontier Colonization session. Myself, Derek, Pouria (and maybe Lloyd the Wonder Human) will be exploring the final frontier.

I'll be bringing Terra Mystica. I can't think of any way of making that funny. Sorry.

    2 · March 31, 2014

    • Wayne

For anyone who is interested in playing Tera Mystica I'll be sat in the corner holding a fire extinguisher.

      3 · April 1, 2014

Presumably the corner by the fire exit in case you are overwhelmed ;)

Anybody for Zoo builders of Carcassonne? It's a Co - operative version of Carcassonne. Heard it's pretty good.

    1 · March 31, 2014

    • Stuart (.

Not a big fan of Carcassonne but you won me over on the cooperative aspect.

      3 · April 1, 2014

    • Paul L.

Zoolocarco? Great game. Can be combined with Aquacatan and for a truly fishy (and fowl) experience.

      April 1, 2014

  • Behrooz S.

I have a new expansion for Carcassonne, which brings a die and a bit more randomness into the mix. Appropriately enough, it's called 'the Jokers' and allows you to break some rules, such as putting meeples on already-placed tiles or putting old tiles back into the bag.

It says it's suitable for 2-6 players. Stuart?

    1 · April 1, 2014

    • Stuart (.

Played it before. I like the dying bit.

      April 1, 2014

    • Stuart (.

Oh god, just reread the rules. Die as in singular of dice? Think I played the last game horribly horribly wrong...

      5 · April 1, 2014

I might not arrive until later on. Say, 22:59.

Back to your velvet corner with you.

I will have Snowdonia together with the newly produced Circle Line expansion. This has the interesting feature of being able to start building anywhere along the line and finishes when all players have reached the terminus. Apparently there are some issues with play length.

    1 · March 31, 2014

    • duckizz

i am up for this :)

      March 31, 2014

  • Soren V.

I will bring Die Macher and TI3.

    1 · March 28, 2014

    • Jacob T.

I have the dexterity rules add-on for TI3 if you haven't got it Soren.

      2 · March 30, 2014

    • Soren V.

No, I do not have that so please bring it. But I do have the 8-player Bribes & Blackmail expansion for Die Macher.

    5 · March 30, 2014

@JohnB: Any chance of you bringing Tash-Kalar, Templar and Suburbia, which I would love to try again?

    3 · March 28, 2014

Foolishly sold Tash-Kalar, but can help with the other two.

      March 28, 2014

Ooh, I'd like to you join for these, Soren!

      2 · March 30, 2014

Anyone with Viticulture feel like bringing it to see if I should get on the Kickstarter? (shall ask around on other nights this week as well)

    March 28, 2014

    • Jacob T.

Nevermind, I've just read enough reviews to make me think no.
