I Live In A Split-Level Head (Tuesday night gaming)

Tonight's theme is games that mix up different genres and/or mechanics, so you are encouraged to play "Eurotrash" games, and games with unusual mix ups of mechanics.

Here is a cheerful sing-along ditty to get you in the right frame of mind:
   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71xMhiT_PXc_...

You are of course also as always welcome to bring and play whatever other games you prefer instead.

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

I guess since there was no 'official' host, I'd better make the customary 'geeklist'. Martin already beaten us to the punch with Wednesday's!

Started with an interesting 3p game - The Kaiser's Pirates. Initially looks like a heavy wargame (bookshelf box, black/red colour scheme, published by GMT) but turns out to be an enjoyable card-driven game of WW1 Naval combat. Then played Citadels, Cash n Guns, Resistance and 6Nimmt!

Giants - Still a good pick-up-and-deliver game with auctions and worker placement, too. Always tough choices to be made on how to use your limited resources, and what victory points strategy to go for.
    .....
Cash & Guns - Always good fun, quick, light, bluffing and outguessing game.
    .....
6 Nimmt! Always very good fun - although I continued by abysmal recent streak.

Bit thin on the ground for a Tuesday. Probably less than twenty. Played Lancaster which I am really enjoying and expect will be even better with the new laws when I get them. Finished with Cosmic Encounter playing as the Virus. Predictably I get picked on and do not win. I don't think i have ever seen the virus win.

@Paul: Yeah, although Giants is just YAAWPPUaDGfRHTCSWBASwHaDotEI ("yet another auction, worker placement, pick-up-and-deliver game featuring Rongo half-tablets, chiefs, sorcerers, workers, big-ass statues with hats, and devastation of the Easter Island") - a vastly overcrowded genre, it is one of the better ones.

@Soren: "Giants, an auction, worker placement, pick-up-and-deliver game featuring Rongo half-tablets, chiefs, sorcerers, workers, big-ass statues with hats, and devastation of the Easter Island."

    I heartily approve this game.

@Martin - I came up with the theme (after approval by David in case he planned to come up with a theme himself or preferred to not have a theme for his host night).

    @Martin: I'm sure the other 3 'assistants' (including me, obviously) should be able to cover 'newbie-wrangling' between us (-;

I'm up for cyclades if there's a spot

    February 17, 2012

  • Martin

And who added the theme anyway?

David can't make it to host this one, any volunteers?

    February 17, 2012

  • russell

Oohh, I am quite interested in trying Giants!

S'funny, I was only thinking about Cyclades recently. Played a couple of times when it came out and really enjoyed it - I fancy another bash.

I will bring Cyclades, an auction, role selection, light civilization building and conquest war game; and Giants, an auction, worker placement, pick-up-and-deliver game featuring Rongo half-tablets, chiefs, sorcerers, workers, big-ass statues with hats, and devastation of the Easter Island.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
