Tuesday night gaming

If you are new to London on Board check out this guide for new players. If you have any questions on the night or are having trouble getting into a game, then look out for the night's host, listed to the right.

If you plan on attending please RSVP. We only have 50 chairs and it gets uncomfortable for everyone if more people than that turn up. Similarly, please change your RSVP to no if it turns out you can't make it.

Having no Wednesday meet really does make for a very busy Tuesday! More newcomers (!) - where do they all come from? Taught Pandemic (won by the skin of our teeth), then 2 games of Cash n Guns which is always a laugh. Played my second game of Kingdom Builder, the different goals really do affect the way the game pans out. Ended the evening with my first attempts at Love Letter and Coup. Both deceptively simple card games that I imagine would get better with more plays!

Really enjoyed my first LOB meet up. Thanks to Paul, John and Barry for being so patient when they taught me and my friend Power Grid. December is a busy month but I'll definitely be coming back as soon as I can.

Power Grid on your first LoB session could have been a tough one! You had some good teachers, though.

It was a bit mind boggling at first but then I really enjoyed it! Liked the strategic and betting element.

Hanabi - Always good, unique co-operative game.
    .....
Kingdom Builder - Still ok, but unexciting, simple, quick, "tile"-laying game.
    .....
Coup - Still very good, simple, quick, bluffing and outguessing game - played about 15 games!!!
    .....
The Boss - Still good, although fairly long when 5 rounds, bluffing and outguessing, area majority game with gradually revealed information a la Divinare and Felix The Cat In The Sack.
    .....
Kakerlaken Poker Royal - Hmm... I have wanted to play this (yet another one) bluffing and outguessing game for a long time, but not much gameplay there and I have no idea how to play what little there is.

Another good night's gaming. Myrmes, Fairy Tale and Get Bit! I won the game of skill...

    November 28, 2012

  • Ronan

Myrmes is a good game but it has two features which really put me off, everyone is forced down a similar route to victory and there is no pacing to the game. The midgame is really the highlight and the options narrow in the last year. I don't feel like there is any narrative. Four plays and it is going for trade although I would play it if asked to. I had not played Spartacus for three weeks and I forgot how much I love it. Best played with three other total arseholes, which I managed to find quite easily. Yes the medium length game (four hours!) was fantastic but the short game still scratches the itch.

  • Paul A.

Even more newbies - this is getting ridiculous. Surely everyone is London has attended by now. A very crowded night. Started with initiating people into the delight that is Hanabi, followed up with PaxPo (still haven't won), and finished with David and Goliath (where, even if I knew the rules and thought about what I was doing, I still got the same score, curses!).

    November 28, 2012

  • Rocky

The Ant game is okay, but let down by the sudden finish with no end scoring, not bad mind you. Spartacus is just ace and I really can't wait for a medium/long game again, the short one is good, but not a touch on the longer versions. Thanks to John B also for bringing along MoM :) - Really good night, thanks all

Myrmes a very good game, although will need a few more plays if it is a classic. Kingdom Builder not as good on second play, then 5 hands of coup

Found lost umbrella. Put in storage with the games.

People, we be full. Don't come unless you've RSVP'd. If you can't come, be sure to cancel.

They reckon they seat 65 at once for lunch. That Guild of Leprechauns across the road has a lot to answer for.

      November 27, 2012

    • Simon H

      Maybe they are 65 *very* good friends (-;

There seems to be a 'hankering' for 'Myrmes (ant game) so I will be bringing that along tonight. Looking to start 6:00 at the very latest (hopefully 5:45). Three more spots going.

    • Nathan

I leave work at 5.30pm, should be there shortly afterwards. I'm pretty curious about this one.

      November 27, 2012

  • Simon H

I see there's a few new folks (again!) I've got Pandemic in the bag which is a decent intro game. If not called upon to teach, there seems to be a whole raft of interesting games to dip into (-: Happy days! I'll be there just after 6 as usual.

In an attempt to actually play (*gasp*) my Essen purchases, I shall bring through King of Tokyo: Power Up. And Pax Porfiriana, just for the stark contrast.

    November 26, 2012

    • Lloyd

Paul, I'd be up for joining you for PaxPo.

Hi, Newbie question. I noticed that you tend to play games not sold in general toys shops. Where do you tend to buy them in London or On-Line? Kings of Tokoy is on my Christmas list :)

    1 · November 26, 2012

    • Paul A.

(Martin - our Shops page badly needs updating. Can yo make that available for general editing?)

      November 26, 2012

Once we will be done with Myrmes, so I reckon around 7pm or 7:30pm. Does that work for you?

      November 26, 2012

  • Rocky

@ Emil - Paul Lister has a great on-line store, www.boardgameguru.co.uk - there are many games there and all at great prices :D - I get about 95% of my games there and the rest in trades and such like, good luck :D

    November 26, 2012

  • Rocky

@Andy - At some point Andy do you want to have a go at Spartacus? It's a really 'nice' game :) But don't wear the t-shirt with the target on your back, not good! ;)

    November 22, 2012

    • AndyB

      Sounds fine to me.

      November 22, 2012
