Board Games on Sunday!

Every week, London-on-Board hits The Old Star pub in Westminster for a few pints, some good pub grub, and of course, lots and lots of board games.

We're immediately across the road from St. James' Park tube station, so it really can't get more convenient, and we're normally there for 9 solid hours of gaming goodness!!!

Newbies especially welcome and if you get there at 11:00 a.m. prompt, you're most likely to not have to wait around to hop into a game straight-away.

Game of Thrones was great, thanks to some tuition we all got the hang of it eventually! There's definitely some advantages to houses over others but the fact everyones trying to prevent people from winning does work surprisingly well as a balance mechanism!

Great day, had a lot of fun.

Me too. 'The Great Zimbabwe' and 'Fleet' are definitely surpassed by the mighty 'Power Grid' ;-)

Top Class, played Galaxy Trucker, which still tickles me no end :). Then had a few games of Avalon, then one of Lloyds games in the basement, which involved Captains, mates & other stuff, taught Lloyd Sobek and he mashed me :( (he should know the rules by now!). All in all a great day, thanks everyone :)

    January 13, 2013

I call it revenge for the schooling you gave me in Meuterer. Good times today, cheers mate.

Hi everyone, I'm really sorry I couldn't make it in the end today. I was running really late and wasn't sure how long you'd all be there for. I'll try to make it for 11am sharp next week! :) Looking forward to meeting you all then!

Anyone for Republic of Rome? A heavyweight negotiation game where we play Roman houses trying to gain power in Rome without letting it crumble. Likely to take 4/5 hours.
Alternatively 1830? If you aren't aware a stock market game where we control railways. Likely to take 3/4 hours.

It's so rare to find people who like (and know the rules of) RoR. We should try to arrange a game. I've never played beynd the Early Republci and would love to give Middle a try.

      January 12, 2013

      That sounds an awesome game!

I should be able to attend and would be interested in Andean Abyss (if I can remember the rules I suppose I can play the government to allow Riccardo to play another faction) otherwise Pursuit of Glory sounds interesting otherwise I see several interesting games suggested

    January 9, 2013

    • Riccardo F.

Well if Richard is coming he's interested in playing so that and John will be four. I'll bring it along just in case and see if we can get a game going. Would prefer to play something other than government this time.

      January 9, 2013

Can't make this meetup Ric. Maybe next week.

I have 5 crew for BSG at the moment.
the crew so far, John Flux, William Flux, Lorenso and Elisa and my self.
we have one person on the wait list so there are 1 or 2 space left.
I plan to start the game at 11:30am and want to keep the running time to less than 31/2 hours if possible.

Does anyone have Merchant of Venus? Would love to learn how to play that game

    January 9, 2013

    • The G.

I can only stay for a few hours on sunday and will have to leave at about 3pm... not sure if we'll have time to fit in MoV

      January 11, 2013

    • Dávid T.

Up to you... I'll be there from 11, if you turn up with the game, I'll see what I can do :)

      January 11, 2013

  • Riccardo F.

Anyone interested in playing Andean Abyss? Also bringing Dungeon Lords/Petz, Twilight Struggle, Caylus, T&E. If anyone is interested in a day-long game, I'm willing to bring/teach Pursuit of Glory as well, which is the Middle Eastern WWI game based on a system similar to TS.

Hi Riccardo, how long does Andean Abyss take to play, and how long to explain the rules do you think?

      January 9, 2013

    • Riccardo F.

It can take quite a while to play, but it should clock at 4 hours if no one has AP. I might be able to find one other person to play, so we only need one more. Rules shouldn't take too long if you are familiar with CDGs, otherwise might take longer.

I'll be bringing Galaxy Truckers and Ticket to Ride Europe again!

@ Jacob - No worries matey, the 27th looks good for a game of Arkham :)

    January 8, 2013

  • Jacob T.

Rocky I wont be able to more than drop-in this week and the 20th. Could return Arkham on either of those dates or we could try and set-up a game at LoB on Sunday 27th.

I'm bringing along Imperial 2030, looking for 3-4 other players. It's a game where you invest in different countries and cause them to expand and fight in order to maximise your profit.

    January 7, 2013

    • Edward M.

No problem, I'm happy to teach it.

      January 8, 2013

    • Edward M.

@Geoffrey Well best of luck with getting your games filled but you're welcome if they don't. I would have been tempted by 1830 if I hadn't just got Imperial 2030 and so wanted to give that a run out.

      January 8, 2013

  • Jeff C.

For the month of January ONLY, the pub is happy for us to also play games downstairs & in the basement. I've adjusted the waiting list limit accordingly...
