What is your favourite game?

Pompous as this may sound, I love 'Big Fish, Little Fish', a game I invented played with a 52-card deck. It features auctions where your score is used as currency and a 'boasting' mechanic that I think is unique. It's all about judgement! I actually do enjoy traditional card games like Cribbage. I love Go and MtG (though am happy to abstain when within this club). I tend to prefer shorter games. I loved Junta and Die Macher but those are the exceptions - usually I prefer something that can be played within an hour, or[masked] minutes if you're chatting a lot. I LOVE Jungle Speed (like Snap but psychotic). I usually prefer games that give a bunch of simple rules and give you space to explore those rules and react to other players. I don't like complicated systems, preferring a game that focuses on one or two ideas and eschews anything else.

Serious or silly?

Serious silliness. I'll try my best to win. I'll double-check the rules and re-read them after a game or two. But I'd rather play in a group that had everyone smack-talking and engaging in banter than play at a silent table. I'll happily modify rules if we all agree beforehand. I'll happily play a 'learning game' or even a 'learning round' that gets abandoned before the 'real' game if we're playing something more serious.

How did you hear about London on Board?

My name is Bez. I recently moved to London. I love to play boardgames and enjoy the company of like-minded folk for my own amusement and sanity. Life's too short to not have a laugh!

What Behrooz S. is saying about this Meetup Group

If you like playing boardgames, this is a brilliant club. If you don't, and are not likely to change your opinion of gaming, you probably should not join. In all sincerity, this club is pretty much what you'd expect and hope for. Folk are generous with their games (forming a library at Red Herring), friendly once you've said hello and generally lovely. For me to say any more would be redundant and pointless.
