R Coding dojo

A regular R coding dojo session run on the second Wednesday of the month. The dojo is held at the TIM Group offices in central London. TIM Group will provide pizza and soft drinks for the participants.

6.00 pm Socialise, eat pizza and discuss R.
6.30 pm Decide on problems to solve/work on during the evening.
6.40 pm Split into groups and collaborate on the task.
8.30 pm Show and tell - discuss what was learnt.
9.00 pm Optional further discussions at the The Telegraph - a nearby pub.

Our approach to the dojo
The coding dojo is very loosely defined and largely participation driven. Topics for the evening will be decided by the participants. We will split everyone up into groups of 3 to 5 people, trying to group more experience users with those starting out to ensure everyone is able to take part and achieve something. A problem is chosen on the night of each event by the group, usually from a list of ideas the group suggested. The session runs until 9pm. We will stop coding around 8.30pm to allow each group to talk about their ideas and approaches to solving the set problem. If you can, please bring a laptop with R ready to use.

If you have any comments, please add them on the site.

Hi Ulrich, I took the liberty and uploaded the file to the github repo - let me know if you like it to be removed for any reason.

Meetup members answered several questions I've long sought answers to. A very stimulating evening indeed! I can't wait until the next session.

Great to see a full dojo tonight! Please remember to update your RSVP in case you cannot make it so someone on the waiting list can take your place.

See you tonight for some pizza and r-coding!

Hi, I'm a newbie in R. Any suggestions to what type of events should I attend?

Just a slight correction that we intend to run the dojo's monthly, although January was skipped. So you'll only have to wait until March for the next one!

R has a steep learning curve. You need to read a couple introductory R text books if you have not already. A good one for beginners is R in Action.

Perhaps people might like to suggest a program from Rosetta code, , that currently does not have an R solution.

I would be interested to hear a lightning talk from anybody with experience of a 'new' R package.
