London Songwriters @ Crisis at Christmas

  • Dec 28, 2013 · 5:00 PM

Hi all,

***

Even if you are not performing don't forget the address for donations:

Sponsor London Songwriters

***

We are performing as part of the London Songwriters community at the Crisis charity for the homeless on Saturday 28th December.

We have been given a 5pm slot for one hour at the Kings Cross Day Centre and the likelihood is for one or more songs each depending on the number responding - acoustic performers or singers with backing tracks should both be fine.

The brief is:

• Make sure all performance material is not only fun and engaging, but also sensitive to the fact that there may be vulnerable guests in the centres

See the Crisis at Christmas website for more details of the charity.

Kind Regards

Murray

Thank you to everyone who performed yesterday - we were magnificent. We played for an hour and a half, held an audience with original songs and had everybody singing, dancing and clapping along. We have raised £200 from 15 generous souls so far and the sponsorship page will remain open to new donations from those that wish to do so. Cheers! M

Thoroughly enjoyed it.... Thanks Murray for ensuring there was a keyboard there that I could play :-)

Great to meet other songwriters at an "external" event ... in addition to the Sunday sessions.

A great event all round !

Really enjoyed the afternoon/evening - lovely seeing all the group who came along, and nice to interact with some of the people we were playing to - it all felt very positive. Thanks Murray for organising! Good to meet Louisa (not sure of spelling...), too.

It was good to get out with this group and play a public show. Well done to Murray for organising it.

On the one hand it was disappointing that only half the group showed up but on the other, the rest of us got to play two songs each which made it more cohesive I thought. It was a good group and I very much enjoyed everyone's songs.

I hope we can do more songwriter meetup "outings". It's one thing to be ensconsed in the basement of the College Arms playing to each other but quite another to be trying to hold the attention of an unfamiliar audience. I thought we all coped admirably

Well done to all those that took part

Crisis's donation of a keyboard fell through so I will have to get our one from Goodge Street unless one of the keyboard players here is bringing theirs. Is anyone driving in to help me out? Also the shift afterwards could be free so we might be able to play longer but I won't have that confirmed until I get to the centre later. I'm tempted to say that more people can come along if they can fit the brief but it will be at the risk of not playing at all. What will be, will be! :-) Cheers M. Call me for any details or offers of help[masked]

Oh, and the shift before us is the Bulgarian Voice Choir...nice!

Hi all, well I guess we're all set for tomorrow. At the moment it's one song but perhaps think about preparing two in case of eventualities. I'm sorry that it was impossible for everybody to perform that wanted to. Can I suggest meeting at the centre by 4:15? Make sure you have read the info sheets for sensible advice about what to bring/do and what not to bring/do - apparently there is a safe area for belongings you do bring. Ask for the Entertainments Organiser if you can't find me. See you then! Best. M

Hi all, here are the performance guidelines I forwarded from Crisis by email last night:

'I have uploaded four relevant pieces of documentation to the file area of the site as follows:

    http://www.meetup.com/LondonSongwriters/files/

From the info sheet, please note the following:

    • Make sure all performance material is not only fun and engaging, but also sensitive to the fact that there may be vulnerable guests in the centres In terms of the standard of performance required I was told that whatever happens expect an ‘honest’ audience reception ;-)

Please let me know as soon as you can if you are comfortable with the updated brief and can confirm as soon as possible that you will be there.

The organisers have suggested turning up earlier to chat to the guests and to promote the performance.

There will be a keyboard and PA provided.

    Cheers!

    Murray

I am also a supporter of Crisis and would be interested in any similar opportunities in the New Year.

Unfortunately I will be in Ireland for Christmas, but if any opportunities like this come up again please let me know. I am an active supporter of Crisis and other initiatives for the homeless and I think there should be more 'fun' fundraisers involving singer songwriters performing as everyone enjoys it equally and a bit of money is raised also!
