Come along on Saturday 15th March at either 1:45pm, 2:00pm or 2:15pm for a guided walk around historic Islington!
We have 3 guides and we will be starting the walk in 15 minute gaps, so please indicate which time/guide you wish to go with when you RSVP. If you've never attended before, all three guides are extremely good and qualified Blue Badge Guides, so just choose a random time (when you RSVP it may come up as 1:45pm for the time to attend, but just ignore that and just come along at your chosen time).
About the walk
Islington was originally named 'Giseldone' in 1005 by the Saxons and then in 1062 it was known as 'Gislandune' which means 'Gisla's Hill'. The name mutated to 'Isledon' which remained in use well into the 17th century.
It was also once known as the 'merrie Islington' where you would go for fresh air and dairy produce to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, this urban suburb has fascinating history.
Behind the restaurants and shops of busy Upper Street, we'll discover charming streets and squares which have been home to writers, artists and playwrights.
The walk is a private walk for the group, we will split into 3 groups and we will be guided by Val (1:45pm), Rachel (2:00pm) and Diane Burstein (2:15pm). It will last about 2 hours.
Cost for the guided walk is £7 per person for Full Member's of the group and £9 per person for non-Members. (payable on the day).
Afterwards we will head to the Camden Head pub, 2 Camden Walk for a chat over a drink.
If you can't see us outside the station, please call.
Hope to see you there!
