Creating Spring MVC Applications with Jan Machacek REPEAT

This location is shown only to members

This event is being repeated due to popular demand....

Jan will give a talk on Spring MVC; he will explain the principles of the MVC architecture and show how the main components in the Spring Framework. You will see how to create a Spring MVC web application, including support for REST. We will explore how to create Spring MVC controllers, views and how to prepare the models while keeping the application's source code as independent from Spring MVC as possible.

At the end of Jan's talk, you will know how to create Spring MVC web applications that make the most of the latest features in the Spring Framework.

You'll get most from Jan’s talk if you know the fundamentals of Java and understand principles of Java web applications. Ideally, you'll also be aware of the dependency injection design pattern and you'll have tried out the Spring Framework.

About the speaker:

Jan is the Chief Architect at Cake Solutions Ltd. Since joining Cake almost 6 years ago, Jan has proven his expertise in both Java and the Spring Framework not only by taking on a wide variety of highly complex projects but also through his collection of published works covering a number of topics. Jan’s role as Chief Architect sees him at the centre of all major projects in Cake. In particular, Jan is often called upon to work on some of the most complex and challenging aspects of a system.

Jan has presented at a number of conferences including SpringOne.

Jan is currently working on the Spring Modules project, which is an extension to the open source Spring Framework project. He is particularly involved in the JSR-94 support, the MVC module along with contributions to the service orchestration module.

This is first seminar for me in London. Actually, I have developed Eclipse Plugin/RCP but I'm interested in web apps also.

Hi, I am new to this community. I have worked in Spring, Hibernate projects with Struts2 MVC but not with Spring MVC. I am really interested and looking forward to attend this one...

Nice chat. Good approach. Jan did a good job, as usual.
No time for beers this time.

The course was very interesting and Jan did a great job catering for an audience of such varying levels of experience of Spring - for some it was their first encounter whilst others had been using it for a long time. Rather than (or as well as) a session on Advanced Spring, an idea for the future might be an assignment (ok, homework) and follow-up question session, as everyone would then have had the chance to try Spring for themselves.

This was the first London Java Community meet I have been to and I was impressed by many aspects of the meet, namely: (i) The quality of the Spring MVC talk. It was very enlightening for us seeing how annotations are simplifying the latest version of Spring MVC. It is my hunch these latest enhancements will make Spring MVC an increasingly more solid proposition to technical architects. (ii) Meeting up afterwards in a pub with ample space to discuss aspects further with skilled and able Developers. (iii) It was also very much appreciated the free round of drinks and food. (v) We are all very impressed by what Barry has done setting up this group. It is my intuition that this is a great introduction to many good things to come and Barry is deserving of praise for giving this to the Java Community.

I enjoyed the speech. Everything was clear and easy to understand. I learned some new things. Thanks to Jan.

It was my first meeting with LJC and even though I have got some experience in using Spring framework, actually I never used the MVC in Spring so Jan gave me a good introduction about it. Jan presented the topic in a good way and I was 100% listening to him and get as much knowledge as I could. I enjoyed being in that meeting and certainly now I'm willing to discover more about Spring MVC. My congratulation to Jan. Well done!

Hi - this was really great as I expected great things from Jan and was not disappointed. Lets have him back and do more advanced MVC/Spring - I just hope people in the venue dont chat amongst themselves during the talk, sorry but that was a bit distracting.

The MVC Spring was great. I have certainly learned lots of things from it. I really enjoied it.

I think Jan did avery nice and useful conference. I have acquired a very good knowledge about the issue.

Excellent presentation about Spring MVC. The speaker was very knowledgeable about the subject. Would have been interesting if we had a comparison of Spring MVC vs other frameworks like Struts or JSF and discuss pros and cons of each. Otherwise it was a great introduction to the framework.

This was my first LJC meetup and it was really great. Jan Machacek gave us an excellent introduction to Spring, including code examples and tricks. At the end I left the meetup with a pretty clear idea about what Spring can do and how to achieve the simplest tasks (and the feeling that I should look into this more deeply).

I didn't realize what an authority Jan was - what a suprise. He literally wrote the book. All the same the lecture was kind of an intro lecture. I was hoping he would talk about more advanced features and what is new in the Spring world.

Enjoyed the code samples and the talk. Looking forward to the "Advanced Creating Spring MVC Applications" with Jan Machacek

I think Jan has presented very well the MVC abstraction model that spring provides and I say this because I know very well the MVC pattern as well as how spring implements it. Unfortunately, I already knew the spring MVC module and that's why maybe I was expecting more but to be honest I think the overall Meetup was good.
