Where did you hear about this group?

Advertised as a similar group on the MongoDB meetup group page.

How long have you been developing with Java?

I was introduced to Java in 2008 and it was the main language used in my course at the University of Southampton. I was able to convince the company I worked for while not at University to switch from VB6 to Java. I also completed my third year project in Java which was to create a reliable distributed backup system based on IBM's autonomic computing principles for which I achieved very high marks and was nominated for an SET award. Since graduating I have been working with VisualDNA in the Architecture team which provides a robust and scalable platform mostly based on Java for the more product oriented teams in the business.

What are your favourite technologies at the moment?

Java is my favourite language hence why I joined this group, I very much like Titan and Cassandra which are two Java based databases the former of which is a graph database. I also like Hadoop which allows me to manipulate huge amounts of data with ease though I am less of a fan of the higher level abstractions as they do not optimise well. My favourite technology in general is Nvidia 3D vision which I find fascinating.

Would you be interested in hearing about any new Java permanent or contract positions at present? (if yes please add which would be of more interest)

Not at present. But in general I prefer permanent positions.

Introduction

I am an enthusiastic software engineer (focussed on Java, Big Data, Concurrency and Scalability). I have a first class degree in Software Engineering (MEng) from the University of Southampton and am current working for VisualDNA in Shoreditch.

What Dexter L. is saying about this Meetup Group

It is a useful group which provides a great number of interesting and useful events. Furthermore at the after talk refreshments event I found meeting with other Java and Clojure developers very interesting and believe I have made some interesting new contacts.
