We were talking to the Debian release manager about this on the Eurostar coming
back into London.  I think the early Java 8 builds might have to go
into experimental
(from my initial understanding of their rules).

It would help developers on Ubuntu test OpenJDK if there was a Personal Packaging Archive (PPA) on lauchpad.net.  It should not be any more work than creating the packages for Debain - maybe a few tweaks for the different version of Debian / Ubuntu.

I am afraid I have only just started OpenJDK 7, as its just appeared in the Ubuntu repositories

Thanks
John
