Matter of opinion, but it's certainly a lot more concise.
If you use JRuby, you get a better interpreter and perfect two-way Java integration to take advantage of all the JVM goodness.
My experience is that it's an interesting bunch. And be careful of the quality of the average Ruby gem (library).
Of course, the biggest difference is that Ruby is a dynamic language, with all the associated pros and cons.
