Re: [ljc] A happy new year, an introduction and some praise...

+1 to Wes and Kim's comments about Barry - to say I was suspicious when Barry first approached me (to help with the LJC) is an understatement :-). He's been used as a role model in the global Community Leadership summit in the US and for good reason, he might just be the only ethical recruiter in the world!

So please, if you are looking for work or looking for awesome LJC folk to work for you, get in touch with Barry and his team - I think we owe him that much at least (not to mention you'll actually get a good result).

Cheers,
Martijn (Slightly less cynical about recruiters in 2013)

I just wanted to add my support to this email.

I used to believe that all recruitment agents were evil - certainly the ones I first encountered when moving to London lived up to this!  I then met Barry at an LJC event and couldn't believe he was a recruiter - he treated "Java" as more than a keyword on a cv, he wasn't pushy and seemed genuinely interested in matching the right person to the right job.  Barry then placed me at Playfish - a move that transformed my life for the better!

Since then I have been on the other side of the fence and used Recworks to source new candidates.  I can honestly say they provided consistently better quality candidates than any other agency.  They also would sometimes send us a candidate that did not fit our brief but that they thought we would be interested in... and we always were! These candidates seemed to generally make it to the interview stage at least.

If you are looking for a new job or you are looking to hire some good quality developers - I can not recommend Recworks highly enough... and that's ignoring all the great things they have done for the community over the past years through the LJC!

Also a huge thumbs up to Ben & Martijn... Although I have not had the pleasure of attending their courses yet, I have been privileged to watch a number of their talks over the years.  They really are a clever pair and have even published their own book

A really big thanks to Recworks, Ben, Martijn & all the other heroes who have made the LJC what it is today!  I am proud to be part of this thriving community.

Cheers,
Kim
