We are often approached by permanent developers looking to get into contracting with lots of questions about what the market is like and looking for advice on Ltd companies and how to get started etc. We often use small communities to solve these problems hence the mentoring network for students and the CTO network for aspiring CTOs. I thought the best thing we could do was set up a small online group of contractors that I knew I could trust that have been contracting in the past, and ask questions through that group.
I have now set up the RecWorks Contractor Network (RCN), the idea being people can network and share advice on their experiences. It also means we can find out a really good cross section on what is happening in the contract market. It has only been running for a few weeks, but has already been quite active with questions and advice, a few of the members suggested organising a Meetup to share advice and I felt this may be more suited to the LJC where we could have a larger impact and offer more advice.
We are just trying to do a litmus test to understand if there is sufficient interest in the LJC to open this event to you guys. Please email me directly, or through the list, to let me know.
- Would you be interested in a Meetup either to hear about or share your advice on the contract market e.g. how to get started, the difference between working as a contractor or permanent developer etc
