Hey guys,

I hope everyone had a great weekend and made most of the sunshine. I am looking forward to catching up with you all at the Developer session tomorrow evening. Here are some other events happening in London that you may well be interested in:

Monday 15th July - London Groovy & Grails User Group Meetup

This week we'll have David Dawson talking more on Grails architecture, this time looking at modularisation of large applications.

Large scale Grails using plugins: How to modularise an application.

In this talk, David Dawson, Principal Consultant at Simplicity Itself, will give his thoughts and experiences of developing large Grails applications in a modular way using Grails plugins.

Monday 15th July - Evening Code and Coffee / Craft Beer

Similar to our morning Code and Coffee sessions, there is no strict format, only an opportunity to meet with like minded craftsmen, and discuss or collaborate on whatever you would like to.

Unlike our morning Code and Coffee sessions, you don't have to get out of bed at some ungodly hour to be here. Just rock on down after work to find other night owls.

Tuesday 16th July - The London Developer Sessions

You absolutely have to get to this event - it's the best place to come, drink beer and just socialise with other developers. Talk about projects you're working on, problems your facing, advise a grad or two or just come to discuss anything you like. It's a great chance to meet first time LJC members as well as seasoned professionals. Ged will be there with a few LJC Book club members. The RecWorks crew will be there to give any career advice or new job opportunities as well as a few Adopt a JSR advocates to help explain how you can get involved. Really what reason do you have not to come along?

Tueday 16th July - Tweet if you wanna go faster

Develop your own project until it hits the top of charts, that's the dream of any indie app developer. But to reach the top of the Play Store, the road is long and full of ambushes... Unless you know the way.

In this session, I'll tell you about the life of my project, from the conception to the 100k unique users. The development, design, marketing, the tools I used, I'll tell you everything about the backstage of Falcon Pro. I'll share my experiences, mistakes and advice that you can use to take your own apps to the very top of the Play Store.

Starting with a short introduction of Project FiFo, what it is exactly what it does and how it looks. Going on with talking a bit about the experiences during the development, where Erlang was great where it wasn't, the biggest problems and the biggest wins on the ride.

The computing industry is male-dominated and female leaders stand out for their rarity. Which other characteristics do women leaders have that give them resilience to succeed in this industry? Can men do more to accept and support female technologists, so that we eventually will see a more balanced representation at the top? How could the industry change itself? We’ll hear from two senior directors from eBay and AOL, about their career experience, and debate the questions.

Are you looking to start a personal project but don't know what to base it on?

Are you interested in trying out some new technologies and wondering how to use them in a personal project?

If the answer is yes, this event could be for you. This is part of the MaP series of events designed to connect open source software projects and potential contributors. It will be in a speed networking style, involving Project Ambassadors speaking to small groups of 3-6 developers. Giving a pitch of an open source or personal project, then answering questions before moving on to another group. The events are intended to answer potential contributors questions around the projects, focussed mainly around starting points.

Wednesday 31st July - So You Want To Become A Java Contractor?

We are often asked by developers about contracting; what the market is like, when to take the first steps and how it differs from permanent opportunities. Contracting can be a great career option but can be very different from working as a permanent employee. We have set up the RecWorks Contractor Network (RCN), the idea being people can network and share advice on their experiences through a common mailing list. It also means we can get a really good cross section on what is happening in the contract market. We have invited members of the RCN to share their experience on working as a contractor.
