Huntington Dog Beach

Let's join the LA Group at Huntington Beach Dog Beach, every dogs favorite place on Sunday, August 11th anytime between 9 am and 1 pm.

We will meet south (east) from the tower #26.  The closest parking spot is the northernmost parking lot north of Goldenwest St. (or the very 1st lot if you are coming from Seapoint St.) Once you walk down the ramp from the parking lot to the beach, turn left towards the pier (and away from the tower) and look for the big dogs. We'll be a hundred+ yards ahead.

Bring water for your dogs, and either quarters for the parking meters or plastic, and a dose of patience for the hunt for a parking space.

The Danes ruled the beach today, and everybody noticed!
It was great to see old friends and meet new members. We thought all action will be over around noon or so, but then, one by one, "the second shift" of 5 or 6 Danes showed up and the party continued. Zora and I had to leave at 1pm (I stuffed the meter for 4,5 hours only), leaving behind several Danes still playing. Took over 600 pics today, so it will take me time to select ~50 worthy posting…… :) Fun day!

We are going to try, this will be our first meet up and our first time letting our pup off her leash without a gate. We are nervous but excited.

Jamie, leashes are a hazard on the beach; people and other dogs generally get caught in them and can trip. Also, it causes your dog to be more defensive which can trigger attacks from other dogs. Many new owners have this concern, but it's never been a problem at a meetup once they let the pup off leash. I won't be at this meetup, but check in with Galina, the organizer of the LA group for more tips once you're there. She's also assistant organizer here.

Thank you Urda, we are going to try and just let Kyojin run and play. I hope to meet you soon and thanks again for the very helpful advice.

we would love to try to join in the fun. I have a question, does any other Dane owners keep their dog on long leashes while there? My puppy likes to try to run away once off the leash. We are trying to train her.

I was a nervous wreck at the first beach meetup my Dane puppy attended. So excited, she just took off, thrilled with the water, all the dogs, etc. I worked on bonding training and stuck to enclosed dog parks until she started responding to me there before we did the beach ..now she pretty much keeps me in her sights but as she was badly abused before I got her at 4 months, bonding took a lot of work. She's now just over a year and a half, responds to me even when she really wants to chase another dog into the water.
