We have been invited to send a group of Great Danes for a therapy visit to a group of freshmen girls at CSULB, prior to their final exams.

The set up will be on a lawn @ CSULB and anyone with a friendly, calm & obedient Dane can participate, even puppies.  Your dog does NOT have to be a Certified Therapy Dog to attend and participate in this event.  This is a good opportunity for anyone who is considering doing Therapy Dog work and wonders how their dog would do.  This setting is much like those we encounter at dog parks, and is not in a hospital (with all the attendance dangers and requirements) as most therapy dogs visits are, so the rules are considerably more relaxed.

We will need a good head count of participants so that parking passes can be obtained.  WE NEED YOUR RESPONSE NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 5th IN ORDER TO GET PARKING PASSES.  If you still want to participate after that date, you are welcome, but I cannot guarantee that you will be able to park in close proximity to our location.

The exact location within CSULB will be sent to all participants prior to the meetup.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to call Urda at[masked] or email me at [masked].

The print version had a different caption and included pictures of Jessie and Duke. The article is the same in both versions.

I got this message from Katie Boyle @ CSULB:

I wanted to send a huge thank you to you, the dogs and your meet-up group volunteers. It was one of the most successful events housing has hosted on campus. The students have been raving about it and posting pictures of all the dogs on their Facebook's. This event was exactly what the students needed before their last exams. All your volunteers were so nice and had big, fun personalities. It was such a pleasure hosting all of them. We can't begin to thank you enough. My floor of girls and I look forward to coming out to support you guys in the winter holiday parade in December. I hope you and Lucy have a great rest of the weekend!

This was an extremely enjoyable event for all involved (students, k9s, and k9 parents). Thank you Urda & Lucy for organizing this in tandem with CSULB. Blue & I had a great time, and boy was he snoring when he got home! :)

Jessie and I had a great time with all the kids and everyone who showed up to represent. She was sound asleep as soon as we got home: )

Unfortunately, Maddie won't be able to come after all. She was attacked by the neighbor's loose pit bull Friday evening while we were on a walk, and will be out of commission for awhile. Sorry, we were really looking forward to meeting everyone.

sorry to hear about this. I hate hearing any dog has been hurt by another. It sounds like Maddie is going to be ok. it is sad that it happened all the same.

This was a very successful event! At least 100 coeds showed up to enjoy some pet therapy happily provided by Duke, Ned, Blue, Fubar, Lucy, Jessie and Wilma. All the dogs did a great job and the students really seemed to be enjoying the stress relief. Lucy was thrilled to be doing Therapy Dog work again, and had a big smile on her face the entire time.
CSULB did a great job organizing this, and I do believe that the Press-Telegram was there.

Maimai started coughing today and we are going to take her to the vet and keep her away from the other Danes. Hope everyone has fun.

Look for an email to all who have RSVPd for a map and directions for parking and to the event. Be sure to stop at the visitors center for your parking pass before proceeding to the parking lot.

I will not be there myself but my wife (Christi) and Maimai will be there. The students should love Maimai!

Athena & Zeus will be hanging out on the beach in Mexico for the month of November. But, I'd like to participate next time... Urda, do you think Athena & Zeus would be appropriate?

Urda, how does the therapy work...Do the students sit with a paticular dane, or multiple students. (LB Public Library has similar called BARK, to help children learn how to read)

Let me see. A bunch of College Freshman Coeds want to pet my dog. I would be being cruel to Duke NOT to let him participate. So, reluctantly, I will RSVP "Yes". (Does irony work here?)
